Re: standerd cars get just as good mpg as hybrid

I don't think that there are too many "regular" cars that get 47 or 48 mpg much less over 50 mpg as many of us do. As well, the hybrids emit less pollution. While hybrids may not be the long term solution, they are definately a bridge there. If you look around here, many people are out for the environmental good, not just the improved mpg.

Also, where in the US is the speed limit 140? Nowhere near me so what does that really matter.

i know this but there are just not in the us I have truck that gets 52 and its deisel isuzu. I didnt say it was leagel to go 140 nor is it leagel to do 190 eather in that states i was just saying that its funny that people leave things out and dont research everything that was all. hybrids are a good thing but more need to be diesel.

sorry if i come of strong my reply wasnt to smash hybrids and they are better for the envierment and a step to better. so is hydrogen and many other things like fushion which is where we need to be heading and should have long ago. i am also in to hybrid but i wish to by an diesel hybrid which is almost imposable to find in the states.

We know all about diesels-but they don't pass EPA regs

We are very familiar with the efficiency of diesels.Unfortunately, only one 2007 diesel is "legal" .It is a a big Mercedes that costs so much that the buyer obviously isn't concerned with mpg.We had twice as many 2006 models (one or 2 VWs which aren't particularily reliable-the MB isn't either).
For the 2008 model year we might have a few more choices.Europe has been forced to use diesels for years-fuel costs-.We had lots of diesel car choices during/after the 1979 oil embargo. They fell out of favor when oil dropped to $ 8/barrel in the 80's.
We will buy them again. They have improved we hear-don't smoke, stink or clatter as much as they did in the 80's.
We have loads of diesel pickups here-USA- but they weigh about 6500 lbs(3000 kg) and have 6 liter motors-sixes and V-8's.
We know all about diesel cars; we just can't buy them.
Thanks,Charlie
PS According to the Euro FE specs there isn't a Prius sized car(1400 kg)(diesel or otherwise) that beats the Prius in mpg.

Charlie, you might be interested to know that Consumer Reports gives pretty good reliability ratings for '03 and '04 Jetta TDI. Both get overall good "Used Car Verdicts" from the magazine, although they don't receive the highest compliment of "CR Good Bet".
