Nobody thought Mercedes Benz would aquire Chrysler, or Kmart would buy Sears either. But, stranger things have happened.

There would also have to be an infrastructure built in this country to accommadate a quality built electric car. One was starting, but when the EV1 died, so did that.

This would also be an interesting concept? How about a "Water powered Hybrid"?

Did Honda and Toyota also publicaly destroy their electric cars? I thought Rav4's were still around.

I don't know about the Honda, but I have heard that Toyota gave their leasers the option to buy their Rav4's and the ones that came back were donated to the National Park Service. Here in So. Cal., the Edison Co. had them for their meter readers.

Lots on info here about EVs. This guy rocks when it comes to alternative energy/transport.

Cheers,
Curt.

There's one at the Henry Ford Museum, complete with charging station. Ironically, it's rather close to the steam car that I mentioned in my prior post in this thread.

Re: "Who Killed The Electric Car?"

there was an interesting interview (Fresh Air? NPR?) with Lee Iacocca and several economists about exactly that back in Jan or Feb- would the gov't bail out GM a la Chrysler? The universal answer was no, at least no more than they helped the airlines after 9/11. The reason given by all was that, although a national asset in terms of mfg capacity, our economy is simply nowehere near as reliant on heavy manufacturing as it was in 1981. It would doubtless be a tragedy on a huge scale, but the loss of GM (which ain't gonna happen anyway) would be nowehere near as crippling as the loss of Chrysler 25 years ago. We have moved on, so to speak. GM is sooo 2nd Millenium, after all ;)
