Re: What needs to be done if Prius has to stay un-driven for 3 weeks ?

Yes how true. All the faux analsyes ( good term for future reference ) omit this key variable. The proper hybrid / non-hybrid comparo for a Prius today is the Matrix. They are similar in size and...

Re: Plug-in: hard economics

I'm firmly convinced that PHEVs will be a small niche if that. For me personally I wouldn't invest in one as a premium over the current Prius because with a 150 mi RT commute I'd only get 20...

Re: Credible Tahoe report

IMO there should be no mud slung at GM on its first real entry into the Hybrid Derby. This technology is every bit as effective as Toyota's or Ford's or Honda's.

I've noted it here several...

Re: move over MPGs, here come MPDs

Yes Gallons/100 miles driven ( GPC ) is far more useful. It puts the responsibility where it belongs on us the drivers. It's a more serious metric, not some ephemeral game ( what's the best mpg I...

Re: What if gas goes sky high???

For all the reasons stated just below I belive that our current supply of 'easy oil' is all but used up. No, not tomorrow but in the near future there will be very few ploaces where you can just...

Re: GM mulling leasing the plug-ion battery pack for the Volt?

There's probably a lot of truth in all of the above to a certain point. Given a different management team, a difference economic environment, a different legal environment then I'd concur that all...

4 o/o 4. But I know where the results came from. Scarborough sent me 1150 questionaires.

Re: Click n' Clack write Congress

Right now all hybrids on the road are more cost effective then their equivilent ICE siblings for any 3, 5, 7 or 10 yr life cycle. This ignores too any Federal Tax Credits that might apply which is...

Re: Click n' Clack write Congress

As they note all the technology to do this is either on the road as we speak or soon will be. 5 yrs is not too short a timeline.

In addition the 35 mpg fleet average is just that the average of...

Re: What if gas goes sky high???

There are several new comments, self serving to be sure, out in the last few weeks from the the Chairman of Shell, The Chairman of Total and the IEA. All of them state that there won't be enough...

Re: Wall Street Journal spin on hybrids

Bob, I know this not be a fact since I sell them daily. Edmunds does have it's TMV or True Market Value but the fact is that Edmunds sells nothing. they don't have to meet and convince a buyer...

Re: Here come the GM Hybrids.....

In the beginning.....;)

Well when hybrids were first being considered by the bulk of the population in late 03 and all of 04 that argument that 'they won't pay for themselves' was rampant and...

Re: Here come the GM Hybrids.....

I'm in full agreement with everything you wrote. I think that the natural progression of fuel prices from $3-ish to $10-ish per gallon will accomplish exactly what you wrote in the last sentence. ...

Re: Wall Street Journal spin on hybrids

The correct way to analyze the purchase of one vehicle ( asset ) or another, say a Prius or a Matrix XR; say a TCH or a Camry 4c XLE: say a T2M or a Tahoe 2WD ICE.

Using the parameters below we...

Re: Wall Street Journal spin on hybrids

This whole concept is wrong, but we all know that. The correct way to analyze the problem would be as a business owner does in purchasing any asset. Get out a spread sheet and list all the costs...

Re: Here come the GM Hybrids.....

No it's not fuzzy logic. There are two views to this issue.

One view, call it the 'greenie perspective', is that all large vehicles are 'evil' and we all should be 'good' by driving the smallest...

Re: Here come the GM Hybrids.....

Au contraire.
We need to do the math... It is a huge savings. It's far more significant than going from an ICE Civic to an HCH.

The math..the math..( 2008 EPA Combined ratings )
ICE Tahoe @ 16...

Careful Chris your bias is showing.

The EPA numbers are published already and like the others they;re in accordance with the new 2008 guidelines.

Here's a shocker for you. The first two GM...

Terril,
In our area we have the one who may have the ongoing hypermiling record for this gen Prius. He posts here as 'VABeachPrius'. We also may have the person posting here, also from our area,...

Re: Tax credits and manufacturers' caps

Sorry this is not accurate at all. The dealer actually gets nothing as a result of the tax credit...unless it's selling the vehicle above MSRP. In that case yes the dealer is getting the money. ...

Re: Tax credits and manufacturers' caps

You are absolutely right and that's the purpose of the tax credit. It allows the manufacturers to sell their vehicles at a good return to compensate for the developmental costs for a period of time....

Re: Steering Wheel Illumination

The steering wheel controls are intentionally dim at night. The Prius has had similar complaints. But I'm sure you've found and deciphered the coded 'braille' system to the various buttons. The...

Re: Hiring engineers for hybrid projects

This is also Toyota's big limiting factor as well. I heard that one of the reasons to take over the Isuzu investment was to get access to the 1000 diesel engineers that were working there. Frees up...

Re: Toyota delaying next gen Prius?

Toyota is very very slick about not saying anything, e.g. Jim Lentz's comments and the recent rebuttal to the WSJ article by the Toyota spokesman.

Basically they said that there will be a new...
