Re: Floundering

If the toys-per-buck is your test, go for the EX. Good FE/low emissions is good FE/low emissions, any which way you can get it.

Re: Federal Tax Credit - What's wrong with this picture?

FE improvement in that particular "inertia class" as used for the EPA testing. Basically curb weight + type of vehicle. The FE improvement of the HAH over the rest of that size/weight class is not...

Re: Differing FE Stands Out

I drive 20K miles/year, and my wife drives 10K in her Explorer. Within $10 we spent the exact same amount on gas over the past 12 months!!

Double the miles at double the mileage :)

Re: LOW FREQUENCY NOISE

google "honda tech service bulletin" or something like that.

Alldata.com has it, but you have to pay/subscribe. TSBs are not intended for consumers- they're meant to inform service dept's of...

Re: No More Accord Hybrid !!!!

For all intents and purposes, the Camry-Accord comparison is apples to apples, or as close as one can get across makers. (Although bluetooth would be nice.) It comes down to the Camry has better FE...

Re: Just did an oil change at 3750. Oil was sooooo dirty

its a dumb one- 7500 miles since the last time it was reset (starts to blink for 10sec at 7000 or something like that- its in the manual)

the HCH-2 is a smart one- tells you how much 'life' is...

Re: New in far north suburbs of Chicago

Welcome!

you are in a nexus of hypermiling talent- look up tbaleno, and he can get you together with many others between Chicago and Milwaukee who regularly get together!

Re: Noise on 12v line

You have a ground loop- the grounds for the inverter and 12v accessory outlet (maybe entire 12V system) are not properly isolated and 60Hz or a harmonic are leaking through to what should be a pure...

Re: [TECHNICAL-HCH] electrical, mechanical controls?

The Honda CC also supports pulsed increments/decrements. I have not done any further investigation, but I would head over to driveaccord.com or temple of vtec to ask specifics, and especially for...

Re: Top 10 Ranking of FE Killers

I think the takeaway on CC is that it will help FE for 99% of the normal drivers out there who will give no heed to other tips/have no more than a casual interest in using less fuel. It's about the...

Re: mileage database for HCHII bi-modal?

Gumby does bring up a point- GH is still pretty smallish and a few of us do have an outsized impact. Similarly to bwilson, I tend to stick with the systems I know- IMA, in this case. There are few...

Re: mileage database for HCHII bi-modal?

I think a lot of it is explained by the HCHII being brand new, current, and GH has a lot of members now to talk about it. The Prius has not changed since GH was born (or right after?)- there were...

Re: Pretty flat topped curve. Someone needs to do post count /unit of time.

I tend to agree- normal with a flattened top...wide variance (though the SD is not as large as the HCH1?). Methinks this is indicative of most HCH2 drivers, with varying degrees of techniques and...

Re: Regen Braking HCH-II

There ya go- a dominant (but not 100%) reason. The engine is always on for the 1st few miles anyway, but uphill, you're really suffering a lack of FE. And down around 45degF is where temp...

Re: Red button left of sterring wheel

how about going to the likely source- the dealer's service dept. Ask them what it is, or at least to look up the VIN for what was done to it and/or trace out the wiring.

Re: What Can A 15 MPH Difference Do To Affect FE?

One of the first lectures in an econ class is about opportunity cost. Everything- material or action- has a dollar cost associated with it. If you gotta get there fast, the cost is extra fuel. If...

Re: Mileage questions in Escape 2WD eCVT

We've brought this up a few times; not sure what the final answer on it is. Some sort of greying out or marking of 'stagnant' vehicles woudl be useful. Their data of course should still count,...

enough. no more back&forth about what is or is not a hybrid- what's the contribution being made?

Re: Is Honda Civic Hybrid a True Hybrid?

Yes- pumping losses are reduced.

No- fuel is obviously not shut off at idle. But it is shut off when the car is already rolling with some speed and can sustain engine rotation through reverse...

Re: Tired of all the whining!

thanks.

People tend to forget that the very existence of hybrids as a mass-market item is still in its infancy. We'll get there, with all the bells and whistles and colors and models to suit...
