Re: Severe headwind 10-15 mpg hit?

The thing is hardly aerodynamic.... we are driving a brick as far as the wind is concerned.

Re: Kill Switch Idea

No... but insurance companies are now downloading and checking the black box vehicles have. Especially in accidents with injuries that they maybe liable for a lot more money than replacement cost of...

Re: An Idea for Using Solar Panels for A/C and Heat

They tend to use Thermoelectric coolers. One side gets hot, the other cold. Its a kind of a heat pump.

Now... with the cup holder when it cools the drink it dumps the excess heat out those...

Re: 2009 escape hybrid changes at mid 40 mph

Isn't it also true that in many cases SOME of the torque from the engine is detouring into the generator, and the generated electricity is used at the traction motor to create torque to the wheels...

Re: Parking for 8 weeks, do I need to do anything special?

Also remember... If at the end you can't start. You can probably still use the jump start using the 12V battery procedure that is described in the manual. Involves pressing a button and waiting a...

Re: Letter from Ford, not a recall...

Several months ago stories hit the news about DEFECTIVE valve tire stems that cracked too easily from age. Lets remember you flex them a bit every time you conntect to them... checking the...

Re: How to test battery pack?

I do have to defend him by saying that there ARE numerous chips/devices to provide "fuel guages" for NiMH/LiIon batteries on portable devices that do EXACTLY that... try to "count coulombs". They...

Re: How to test battery pack?

Okay... this touches on something that annoys me with plug-ins. It gets 52mpg on EV only.... Um... if its EV ONLY why the heck isn't it 1,000,000,000 MPG! Its EV ONLY... the gas engine supposedly...

Re: Electric Power Steering

I tried this on my '06... it seemed to me to be related to HOW FAR you turned the wheel from center. If I put it a bit off center, the car would drift that way, but the wheel would not center...

Re: Ford TPMS reset tool

Hmmm I wonder why they have you put a "magnet" on the valve stem. If its an internal wrap around it would seem to be an odd instruction.

Re: Ford TPMS reset tool

Nice, but before the 2005-2007 people get excited. The TPMS on those models is wrapped around the rim... it is not on the valve stem, so I doubt this works for those models. How do I know its...

Re: FEH/4WD/Scanguage-II

A few things to note IF that works. 4WD being actually probably more like AWD will help one maintain the road in wet conditions as well (you could always put the fuse back in). You are likely to...

Re: FEH/4WD/Scanguage-II

The difference is known and reported. About 2-4MPG. Thats what the window sticker says... thats what an admittedly somewhat cursory examination of posts here says. Calling that "major" depends on...

Re: Sleeping/Camping in the FEH?

To be honest. I don't care how "clean" a vehicle is, nor how long it runs every time it comes on. A tent out the back is right near the tailpipe. I wouldn't sleep that way. Sorry, not worth the...

Re: What MPG people getting on 4WD FEH's?

'06 FEH 4WD.

Tooling around at 45MPH in the city with few stops.... I can get about 34MPG or higher.

Freeway. If I hold to 65MPH and no higher I can get 32-33. If I go up to 70MPH then it...

Re: Weak FEH Roof Strenth

They won't as I understand it... thats perfectly normal. Your impact was from the side and the system will deploy the front ones only in a front impact.

Re: Towing Hitch

The box that was required for the earlier FEH's (Mines an '06) will have a wire that leads all the way back to the 12V Battery! The harness that just hooks in will have a box as well. That box...

Re: EZ pass on the FEH

Are they "non-transferrable"? If so that would explain why "properly affixed" is a requirement.

Re: Just purchased a 2006 escape hybrid, some questions.

My '06 has a PATS key system... I don't know if all do. If you get a PATS key blank you can actually program them yourself... HOWEVER, you need TWO VALID KEYS to do it. If you only have one. I'm...

Re: DOE 2007 FEH PHEV with 8.5kWh battery

It might be nice but don't hold your breath. Car manufacturers have never offered "upgrades" to older vehicles for newer technologies on their new models. Its not part of the product plan of...

Re: No Low Washer Fluid Warning Light

I've never had a car with one.... The thing runs out and I just stop at a service station. If you lived somewhere remote that might be failry nasty but in the area I'm near I don't miss it much.

Re: To AWD or not to AWD

I was under the impression from other posts, that when the battery fills up, the extra power will be sent to the motor to "spin" the engine.... effectively performing the function of compression...

Re: Right car... wrong time...wrong price

I don't disagree, I have an FEH myself. Problem is, in a recession I think more people will be thinking of their pocketbooks RIGHT NOW rather than in the future.

My brother works for Ford. My...

Right car... wrong time...wrong price

I read somewhere that the new Fusion hybrid will run about $8000+ more than the conventional version that will be right on the showroom floor beside it.

The Prius does so well partially because...
