Re: No more Honda hybrids!!!

Bought new Civic hybrid in Jan 2004.
95% of my commute is freeway.
Hot and humid Georgia summers.
Hypermiled it for a few years and achieved almost 75MPG. Hardly any AC.
Got tired of hypermiling...

Re: 2004 Civic Hybrid Battery finally bad, safe to operate?

I have been driving my 2004 CVT HCH with an inoperative IMA system due to a bad battery for the last 25k-30K miles. As you say, the lead acid battery doesn't charge below about 1500RPM and above...

Re: How long does the car drive with a bad IMA battery-And overall 260K mile review

Update.
My yellow check engine light came on after they replaced the transmission. I also noticed the red battery light comes on if the RPM is below about 1500, and if the RPM exceeds 4000.

The...

Re: New owner - 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid

I live in the Atlanta, Ga area and I've done pretty good over the last 260,000 miles. My signature reflects my hypermiling days.

How long does the car drive with a bad IMA battery-And overall 260K mile review

My IMA is disabled, computer has a defective IMA battery code. No assist, no regen and the red 12v battery light comes on when RPMs are below 1200 and above 4000 RPM.

Question for those who've had...

Re: Do Tires make a Big Diff. in MPG ?

I'm on my 3rd set of Dunlops set to 50PSI. Tires do make a difference and I gain 5-7MPG with high inflation. A bit hard on the behind though. I've just crossed 250,000 miles and those extra MPG's...

Re: EDTA: EVs increase US national security by reducing need for oil

It would be great if we could just pull into a stall in a "gas" station and have the old spent battery automatically ejected out the bottom and a freshly recharged one inserted and sign the credit...

Re: Obama Administration Invest in Electric and Hybrid Vehicles

"The U.S. Department of Energy has subsidized Tesla with $465 million in loans"

Well, that $465 million will end up costing our children what, after interest on the debt? Why does the Federal...

Re: Should I Buy This 2003 Civic Hybrid?

I know my reply is a little late, but...

I would NEVER spend $7,000 on an old, used high mileage automobile with a known "reconditioned" problem.

Hybrid or not.

Exceptions may be Porche, ...

Re: 2004 civic engine noise in drive

If you have the CVT and the noise occurs when you accelerate from a stop then it probably needs a new CVT start clutch.

Mine went out around 130K miles and I believe the repair cost around $1,800....

Re: 12v battery change

If I recall correctly my OEM battery went bad around 60k miles. The dealer wanted about $100 for a new one. I went to a big box chain auto parts store and spent around $40.

I'm going on 230,000...

Re: Just got my Volt

Thank you for the information Bob.
My power rates average to be about 0.06/kwh over the summer and winter rates. Assuming the Volt's metering system is accurate with 29kwh/100 miles it would cost me...

Re: Expected Hybrid Battery Life?

My Honda Civic Hybrid probably has a similar pack as yours and has over 220,000 miles without any issue at all.

CVT slippage yes. Battery problems no.

Re: Just got my Volt

Can you point to anyone (you say there are so many) who has said or hinted that a Volt is supposed to be a "rattle trap" or like a Civic produced 30 years ago?
If you refer to my post, I never...

Re: Just got my Volt

I was just wondering what the advantage of this vehicle is over something like a regular 2012 Civic EX, which is a very nice car, gets a combined EPA of 32MPG but costs around $21,000 less?

I...

If you don't mind me asking, what is the out-the-door, bottom line cost of a Volt including home charger installation?

Re: Big Thank You. New Owner 2004 HCH

I'm not sure about "battery issues" with the HCH 1, at least nothing chronic. I'm going on 210,000 miles with no issues, other than a clutch replacement @ 130,000

Don't worry about the battery charge, it is managed by the car itself.

Re: 2003 HCH 1 @ 182,000 miles

Re: How many miles will a '05 Civic Hybrid last?

My 2004 is +200,000 miles and still drives just fine. The belt slips a bit on acceleration but it isn't too bad and I back off the gas when it begins to slip.

I had the transmission start clutch...
