Re: Cargo on top of battery.

It's a sealed aluminum box with several separate compartments (and hence internal support for the lid). Unless you're taking on an anvil delivery job, I can't imagine any possible issue. You'd be...

Re: FEH 2008 yellow wrench light (highway driving only)

open the liftgate (or just the window if you prefer)
pull off the cover (it's on the left trim panel, just pull)
remove the inner cover (show a bit of care here - the tabs that hold on this cover...

Re: FEH 2008 yellow wrench light (highway driving only)

Six years is way too long to wait between hybrid filter changes. The filters are very cheap and checking/changing takes literally a minute.

I always keep one tossed in the back and check...

Re: LOCK liftgate with key. Possible?

Isn't the liftgate latch a solenoid? If so, dead battery means can't open liftgate. QED.

Re: 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid Stereo Wiring Diagram

My 2006 had a switched 12V outlet in the front, but my 2009 has constant power. Not sure whether that difference came with the 2008 "cosmetic" changes or the 2009 update.

Re: How To: Repair bad battery fan for cheap

Very nice! A couple of questions:

Do you notice significant noise in a quiet vehicle (i.e. radio off) with the fans running at full speed and the car idle?
How long would you estimate from...

Re: 2009 Escape hybrid questions

Keep in mind that the '09 relies on the A/C system to supply battery cooling while the '10 draws air from the occupant space. That's pretty much a non-starter as far as trying to replace the A/C...

Re: 05 escape brake pad replacement gone wrong... HELP?

Here's another good read (Ford Escape section begins with slide 69): https://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1005&context=auto_pres

Re: 05 escape brake pad replacement gone wrong... HELP?

The battery/fuse disconnect sequence, so far as I know, is a safety issue (you don't want the accumulator pressurizing the system while you're working on it). I'm don't recall any reports of the...

Re: HV cooling fan recreation

And I do agree that the OP, if he's not already done so, should do a Forscan check of his modules for undisplayed codes. Though for scanning, as opposed to programming, an OBDLink MX BT should be...

Re: HV cooling fan recreation

I'm not trying to minimize the benefit of cooling, just trying to put it in perspective with the entire system. And I acknowledge your greater expertise in battery chemistry.

And I can understand...

Re: HV cooling fan recreation

Personally, DIY threads like this are the some of the best things to be found on Internet forums.

Perhaps some are forgetting that Ford's original response to battery fan failure was "It's a...

Re: ABS Light on Regen Brakes Disabled with 3 codes, HELP!

There's always a trade-off. You would have indeed gotten the upgraded brakes with the 2009, but you avoided the problematic (albeit gas saving) EPAS. I say this as a 2009 owner who got to spend...

Re: Powertrain changeover year 2008 or 2009?

'08 was indeed new body with roughly the same drivetrain as '05-07. '09 upgraded the hybrid drivetrain but retained the engine driven A/C. '10-12 were the electric A/C.

Re: Gas engine keeps running

Battery fan replacement kits from Ford is about $250-300. If you have the tools (security torx being the only oddball) it's about 2 hours of labor.

Re: 2008 FEH: ABS and Parking Light On / Dealership Says It's Hoses

If you do decide to have them perform the service, make sure the "on them" clause is in writing. If they won't do that, you were right to not believe them; leave and make it clear you won't be back...

Re: Enhancing (hacking) performance of the FEH EV battery?

In several years using an SG2 on 06 and 09 FEHs, I've never seen that happen.

Re: Low SOC after sitting a few days

I've had a Scangauge for many years, first on my 06 FEH and now on my 09. I've also had one installed on longer trips on my wife's 09 Subaru Forester. I've never seen it "wake up" when opening the...

Re: Transmission Issue? Slipping?

I think this is a very important observation. The reverse in the FEH is 100% electric, with no power directly from the engine. So if it behaves noticeably worse in reverse, that's a strong clue...

Re: read the NHTSA complaints on the 2006 FEH

I drove my 2006 well over 200k miles and only replaced it when an accident forced me to. Replaced it with a 2009.

Rust on that generation of Escape (not just hybrid) is a very real problem,...

Re: P0A81 (HV Battery cooling fan) + EV mode questions

I replaced the HV battery fans in my '06. Not an easy job, but quite doable even for a weekend mechanic. About $250 and 2 hours of time. There's a very nice write-up on Edmunds that's linked to...

Re: Considering a 2008 FEH with 56k miles

Depending on where this FEH has spent its life, I'd look closely for rust. My 2006, which spent half its life in Maine and the rest in western PA (heavy salt area), had issues with 3/4 of the wheel...
