Re: Comparison Test: 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid vs. 2009 Honda Fit Sport

This is another case of hybrid bashing, using the stupid tactic of comparing apples to oranges and declaring that apples are superior.

The Fit and the Civic are different cars, which is why Honda...

Re: 2007 HCH Road Noise

I, too, was bothered by the road noise since I bought my HCH last year. But I thought little of it until I read about the control arm TSB here in GreenHybrid.

The service guy at the Honda dealer...

Re: should i buy 114K mi '03 honda hybrid

You shouldn't buy a 114K mile anything. But it's all a matter of price. How much does the car cost?

Re: What could Honda do with the new "Insight" to make you trade?

The dealer would have to give me what I paid for my HCH, and the federal gov't would have to give me a fat tax credit for buying the new hybrid.

Re: 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid [Spied]

It looks a lot like the Prius. And why would Honda produce another 4-door compact hybrid that costs almost the same as the HCH? Unless they're planning to ditch the Civic Hybrid?

What about...

Re: Prius, gas prices and payback

The Prius has no direct i.c.e. equivalent. I'll bet that the boys at Toyota compared the Prius to a Camry to derive a very small price premium. That's how they got the "5 months" payback.

But...

Re: MPG difference in opposite directions

Wind and hills make a HUGE difference. Every time speed doubles, wind resistance quadruples. And you can see the immediated difference between a flat road and an uphill grade on your dashboard...

Re: Tire rolling resistance

As a percentage of rolling resistance reduction, it appears that 36 psi in the tires is ideal, and 60 mph maximum cruise speed also appears to be best.

Re: Business Week Article on GM as Hybrid Industry Standard

"My understanding was the first Prius was introduced in Japan in 1997."

Probably so. They imported it to the U.S. in '99 or '00. But that first generation Prius was completely different than...

Re: Who thinks GM will bankrupt by Jan. 2009?

Just like Chrysler in the 80s, or American Airlines in 2003, GM will look bankruptcy in the face, but never have to file. Either Congress will bail it out, or their promise to bail them out will...

Re: Reduced MPG..???

Looks like tires make a big difference in mpg. I'm surprised about the K&N results.

The suggestions are obvious, although probably not practical -- go back to LRR tires, and go back to the...

Re: Edmunds survey

"the least expensive dollar for mile car, hybrid is NOT the way to go."

Correct. The least expensive car would be a used Geo Metro 3-cylinder -- $3,000 to $4,000 + 40 mpg.

The least expensive...

Re: Edmunds survey

Where'd they get the "average price premium of $5,000?"

The Prius has no "premium" because it has no direct i.c.e. equivalent.

The Civic Hybrid costs only $3,000 more than the regular Civic.

Re: VW Enters Hybrid Race

"he wants to be were Toyota is by 2010."

EVERY automaker wants to be where Toyota is by 2010. Problem is, they can't condense 15 years of R&D into a year and a half.

Re: Purchase vs Lease?

"I am more comfortable with leasing, as it fits into my budget."

No it doesn't. Some dealer has convinced you that it does, simply because a lease offers a lower monthly payment than a purchase. ...

Re: VW Enters Hybrid Race

I thought the "hybrid race" was over. Toyota won. Honda finished a close second.

Sure it does: as long as the U.S. has a supply of money, OPEC will demand more.

Re: Hybrid owner on TV

My opinion of this event depends, of course, on HOW SLOW the hybrid driver was going.

If he's like me and goes 60 mph in a 70 zone, no big deal. If he's like some hyper-milers and goes 48 ........

Re: Driving In Southern Cali Heat - Sluggish

When the IMA battery gets low (2-3 bars), the computer will prohibit battery assist on acceleration and instead use engine power to re-charge the battery. That's probably the reason for your HCH's...

Re: No use for Car...Trade or Sale

I'm impressed that you're asking essentially the full MSRP for your used HCH. I'll be even more impressed if you get it!

I'm sure it's possible with the price of gas in the bay area.

Re: Windshield Crack!!!! and B1 Service..Synthetic oil question

1. The oil change meter measures more than just miles driven. It factors in RPMs to derive its oil life display. The harder you drive the car, the shorter your oil life will be. But stick with...

Re: If you have a choice... Fly or Drive your HCHII?

"time=money and it would probably cost more to drive."

Certainly in some situations, flying is the right choice. A trip from Seattle to Miami would be an example.

But when you're comparing...

We can only hope!

I'll happily pay $4 or more for gas if it means the bitter end to that...
