Re: Cold Weather & MPG/Block Heater

4) The OEM type (for Toyota Highlander or Lexus RX at least) involves pulling some shrouds from around the exhaust manifold (?), and removing a plug from the block and replacing it with a heater...

Re: Cold Weather & MPG/Block Heater

I put a block heater in the wife's RXh and have it on a timer set to give it about 1-1/2 or 2 hours of warming before she leaves in the morning. With the scan-gauge I see it trims about 5 minutes...

Re: Best mpg and miles per tank

I had a block heater installed on our RX, but have left off using it during the summer. I suppose it makes sense to use it in the warm season, too, and maybe even more so since the HV battery is...

Re: Warm-Up Tips?

I added the block heater to the wife's daily driver, a Lexus RXh. By my measurements (w/ a ScanGauge-II,) it was shaving about 5 minutes off the coolant warm-up time. She has a short commute, so I...

Re: Mass Air Flow Sensor & Throttle Body Service

Also, is the shop offering to do the work under warranty? Just about anything in the engine controls would be covered under the 5-yr/50k-mile pollution control system requirement, no? First owner...

Re: Anyone doing something different with their block heater

Here's the dealer-install on our RX. Requires popping the hood every night, but given the alternative, I think I'm OK with that. At least I'm in a not-so-frigid garage (40-something tonight)

Is...

Re: 10,000 mile service....Your Thoughts?

I understood that is true of engines that are broken in by the mfg'r, but I don't know what make/models that would pertain to. If I'm mistaken, I'll try to not repeat it again.

Re: 10,000 mile service....Your Thoughts?

We just did an oil change on our RXh and switched to Toyota/Lexus 0w20 synth at 11k.

I asked the service guy if 11k was too early to switch to all-synth. I don't remember his exact words, but...

Re: TCH original oil

I asked the local Lexus dealer if they carry 0W20 and how much they want for it. Their price was competitive with full-synth at NAPA so I'll just have them use theirs at the upcoming change.

Re: 2008 RX 400h MPG average display error?

I wonder if the 3-3.5 gallon low-fuel warning is in part due to concern about unporting the fuel pickup for some vehicle attitudes, rather than just being about absolute miles remaining.

I don't...

Re: MPG Gauges

You might verify that it's the scanner and not your car's sensors/computer first. Depending on the car's age and your location, the mfg'r might be on the hook to make it right under warranty.

Actually you can make hydrogen from petroleum, natural gas or ethanol, or isn't that what you meant? Electrolysis isn't the only way to make hydrogen. If the fuel cells and electric cars are...
