Re: Scangauge codes?

Bryan, what did you come up with? I bought am SG2 not long ago, and I'm unimpressed. What're the parameters you most watch?

Re: I need a new/refurbished battery pack

If you think you need a new traction battery, buy it from a Ford dealer. It seems like you don't really think you need a new battery though.

If you're considering doing some sort of...

Re: Oil Change - Frequency?

Filter every 10k, Amsoil annually. 200k on my last Ford Escape Hybrid (so far). Probably over a million miles experience with Amsoil. I've never sold the stuff, I just like it.

Re: Oil Change Reminder

There is probably a "real time" clock in the engine control, or perhaps another part of the vehicle, that keeps time without any connection to any external battery. A $20 Casio watch can keep time...

Re: Feel Like I'm Being Taken for a Ride - Stop Safely Now

Hey, this may not be the car for you man. I've done most of my own mechanical work for the last 45 years, AND I'm an experienced industrial electrician (since 1979), and I know this is a car to have...

Re: Repl tires other than Michelin or Continental

River rat is a Michelin salesman and stock holder. I started this thread and labeled it appropriately to keep him and a few others away. He still doesn't get it, even after being told as much.

Re: Help a new FEH owner please

I'm a little baffled by some remarks about not " using the brakes". Certainly on my 08 I feel that a very light touch on the brakes is very, very useful for moderating speed and gaining charge! ...

Re: 2009 FEH AWD stuck in park, no brake lights!!!

juggie, I think checking grounds is the smart thing, especially because of the intermittancy. You probably realize that ALL other years manuals would be different than 08, and some quite different.

Re: New Tires, again =(

Something's not right if your other vehicles drive the same roads and get noticeably better tire life. Do you get 29-32 MPG or better? If not, I'd suspect tire pressure and load weight as well as...

Re: Camping with my 2009 FEH

Have fun typically means no problems. I'd encourage you to be careful and aware of what's going on. The inverter is so nice because you can use things you already own, like, are familiar with...

Re: Unravelling Engine Braking - pre-'09 and post-'08

OK, this is a pretty old thread, but it's the right one for my questions and observations.

As an answer to one of the questions above, I frequently used "L" in my 08 to control my downhill speed,...

Re: Battery drain! Also NAV dvd doesn't work!

Jess, what's happening?
Your Escape Hybrid is TOTALLY different than other cars, and is difficult for people quite familiar with traditional ICE cars to understand. Really man, and some of Ford's...

Re: Help a new FEH owner please

Deprotinator's 2 posts just above are right on.

I will comment further to say that I'm a western Washington driver, and see you're probably an Oregon man. That said, your lower speed limits...

Re: Battery and charging questions

Actually a few factors are present here: The relay doesn't draw a large sustained current, neither does the hybrid transaxle windings that act as a starter, BUT they have a very high "instantaneous"...

Re: Repl tires other than Michelin or Continental

Well, I started this thread, and dropped off the site for quite a while. I put 2 sets of General Grabbers on that 08. The 2nd set was put on by the local big Ford dealer, insisting they were the...

Re: Just bought an 08 Escape

Quite a find. Looks great. Care to share an approximate price you paid?

"Maximizing the hybrid system" will be easy acceleration and deceleration/braking, RPM awareness and staying below 2500...

Re: Shocks and Struts 2008 FEH

When I lived a little bit south of Chicago 40k on shocks was good. Now I've got 180k on my factory stuff. Difference is roads, and driving style primarily. I cross RR grade crossings a few...

6yrs and 188,000mi, HVTB time?

My mpg and my EV mode and charge and discharge characteristics as shown on the vehicles display are leading me to think it's time for a new traction battery, what with 6 yrs and 188k, but I'm not...

Re: MPG (Engine?) Problem

I've never had any prob with E10 on my 2008. Mileage under 28MPG would make me look for a flat tire or 2! ....but more seriously, I wonder about your tires to consistantly get such poor mileage. ...

Re: 4WD Escape Hybrid 2008

Amer, like many drivers it appears that you are rather optomistic about driving in snow with your SUV. I don't know what your road and snow conditions are, but I hope you have better knowledge and...

Re: Front Brakes - lessons learned

Well, just FYI, now I've got 189,000 miles and 6 years on my original brakes, and not just I, but the mechanics that see them say "plenty life left on those brakes". Looks like I'll be replacing my...

Re: Repl tires other than Michelin or Continental

Well, my Grabbers are at 68k miles and are really past due for replacement. I don't have good records for my mpg over the entire life of the OEM Continentals, but I've never gotten as good mileage...

Re: Do Tires make a Big Diff. in MPG ?

A Hybrid vehicle (in particular) isn't at all like your grampa's old pickup back in the 70s. "Pimping out" a hybrid is absolutely stupid, even more so than most other vehicles. Any hybrid vehicle...

Re: Can you charge an auxiliarly battery with FEH?

Alright, that was just conjecture, my point was that the NiMH cell characteristics, for cells used in traction battery applications that I've seen info on, loose charge much differently than...
