Re: Secondary battery? Huh?

There is no such battery. If a NiMH battery was placed under the engine the heat from the motor would kill it in very short order.

So "claimed to know" is the key phrase in your post.

Re: 2005 Civic interior light not working right

Another possibility, if you don't mind punching a hole in the ceiling liner. Mount a small flat switch near the driver's door and splice it into one of the lines which enables the "on" position for...

Re: 2005 Civic interior light not working right

Live with it? Seems like a lot of money for an iffy outcome on an old car.

One option would be to leave the dome light in the on position and then route the +12V (or ground, whichever makes the...

Re: Electrophoresis Box for Grid Charging - 2005 Civic Hybrid

Put a >200V diode in the positive lead at the power supply so that current will only flow out of it. When you attach the leads the diode will prevent any current from flowing into the power supply,...

Re: Help with my hybrid! (03 civic)

Car overheated dramatically because either the water pump failed or the belt driving it fell off. (Assuming there is one, on most cars there is.) Short overheating events are not too bad but if you...

Re: IMA Fan Runs Constantly after Grid Charger Install

On the HCH I shorting the PWM control line to ground would do that. Assuming the HCH II is similar one of these may be the case:

1. In the cable that line is shorted to ground.
2. The controller...

Re: Location of pcv valve?

You know, if the PCV valve fails stuck open one could possibly splice a 2nd PCV valve from another type of car into that hose somewhere. (At least temporarily.) There are "inline" PCV valves...

Re: Location of pcv valve?

You are not going to like the answer...

It is on the front side of the motor - under the intake manifold. On page 11-271 under "PCV valve replacement" the first step is "remove the intake...

Re: TCM transmission control module 05 HCH

The splines on the end of the shaft can strip too, at which point the only gear is Neutral. That probably isn't the case here though because the car was said to be slipping, and with the splines it...

Re: 2004 civic hybrid 12v battery light

What is a "cell"? Do you mean the whole IMA pack or just one stick? Assuming the former that seems like a reasonable amount to spend if only to have a second pack to mess about with. With two packs...

Re: 2004 civic hybrid 12v battery light

Holy crap that is a lot of miles! Hard to believe this model car got that far without several bearings being replaced and probably an engine rebuild or replacement. No CVT would ever last that...

Re: big hills in a 04 civic hybrid?

My experience with two small cars, a 1987 (I think) Tercel with a 1.3L (or 1.5L?) motor and a 2003 Protege5 with a 2L motor, at altitudes like that was that they lost a considerable amount of power....

Re: Instantaneous MPG gone

Just a guess - how about pulling fuse 9 for a minute, or failing that, disconnecting the battery? That may reset everything back to default, which is probably to show the information which is...

Re: idle unstable 2005

Does it just do it once while warming up? When my car goes from open loop to closed loop the RPM drops briefly quite far and then recovers. It only does that when it is warming up, once it has gone...

Re: Battery is dead??

Not sure if this applies to your model, but the HCH1 has a "radio code" which must be punched in whenever the battery has been disconnected. Many threads on this, see for instance:

Re: Advice for a HCH?

As long as the road is paved and not heavily rutted the CVT is not going to care, and the IMA certainly won't care. The biggest variable I think would be the cost of a replacement IMA battery. ...

Re: Advice for a HCH?

Let's see how much you drive if that would only save you 100 euro a month. In most of Europe gas is around $7/gallon, euro is 1.15 dollars, hybrid avg mpg ~40, conventional ~25. Let X = miles driven...

Re: Advice for a HCH?

Then why are you looking at Prius and Civic? That is a small car, in the USA at least. Guess it depends what you mean by small. A Fiat 500 is even smaller.

Re: Advice for a HCH?

Seconded, with the caveat it should be a really common brand so that parts are easily obtained and also inexpensive. BMW mini's are small cars but they will not be inexpensive to maintain. In the USA...

Re: I've just about had it with this dang thing...

Even if they gave it to you the car has negative worth, because what you purchased is a money pit. You would have been far better off buying a conventional Civic, even with that many miles on it....

Fuse 4 under the dashboard also affects the cruise control, but also so many other things, so it would be odd if the car ran...

There are several threads and other articles on this. See for...

Re: Honda Civic IMA 2004 Battery / Voltage Questions Please help

That is normal. If the car thinks it is "hot" it runs the fan until it is not, even though it is not running. For those of us who live in hot climates the car does that pretty much all the time.

Re: Dead 12V DC DC converter

It might be, but if the IMA battery is very nearly dead the car will enter a state where the 12V battery only charges when RPM are above a certain level. In stop and go driving that doesn't happen...
