The door to the little nook in the dashboard won't close

Urrrrgh! Anybody else have this problem? I can close the door 'til the cows come home, but it won't click and stay shut. I've felt around for obstructions, but can't find any.

I just checked mine in the bright sun. There is a cheap, molded plastic little hook-hasp at 12 o'clock right behind the upper part of the door.

Mine is nearly broken and hanging by a thread. Warranty time! Let us know how they treat you, ok?

I assume (that BAD word) that they are referring to the cubbie under the HVAC controls, that looks like an overhead garage door, and contains one of the 12V outlets and the AUX input...Or to put it another way., the one in front of the shifter.

Yeah, I brag to my friends that I have a garage door in my car. I keep a toy car in mine.

Slightly off topic...
I used to drive a 1996 Avalon. Even though the 2008 Camry is smaller, it is amazing at how much extra storage space they managed to build into the front passenger area of the car. Very impressive!
Although, I can't see too well out of the back of the car. In the Avalon, I could see the back of the trunk (when backing up), with the Camry, I have to guess how much room I have.
Oh, well, can't win them all!

Mine occasionally messes up, but it always closes....BTW, I installed my Sirius radio in there. When you park the car, just close the door and nobody knows it's there! Also installed the antenna inside the car.

Well, my husband managed to get the door to latch, by wedging his finger in the top and pushing down on the door just before closing it. Of course, now I'm afraid to open it up again!

I suspect this is the part you probably need:
http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...=1&catalogid=2

It takes about five minutes to install. You have to remove the shift knob, the "rear trim" (8), and the little trim pieces on the left and right of the upper console. The trim pieces come off with just a tug, or a little levering. If I recall correctly, the only tool you need is a plastic putty knife to use for prying, and a phillips screwdriver. (You might want to have a 10mm socket on hand, just in case I don't.)

There are some pictures in the post about installing a backup camera that might be helpful:
