Replacing JBL Non navigation with a Navigation system
Does anyone know if it's possible to replace the Non navigation JBL radio with a Navigation unit? Either a OEM part, or one of the after market ones?
I've seen some people replaced their system with an after market one and lost the display with mileage temp etc. It just became a large odometer.
The JBL system is really sub par to what you can get in the aftermarket for MUCH less. On past cars I always replaced the mfg radio with a good after market system but since it was a Hybrid I upgraded to the JBL for better sound and the bluetooth. However the system really lacks. It does not show information on the Radio stations which many stations now broadcast. It only has 1 line of information when listening to XM and you need to press the button to view the whole name (no auto scroll) I worry that an after market radio would be a way for the dealer to void the warranty if something strange happened to the electrical system/Hybrid system. For ex. Blame a battery problem on the aftermarket radio then your stuck buying a $3k battery.
Since most cars these days have all the wiring installed and then they just overcharge to add an upgraded radio. I wonder if getting one that has all the functions of the Hybrid would work.
I figure I could probably find one from a Hybrid that was totalled in an accident. I see on Ebay there is a company called A-sure that sells after market radios for the Camry but they are in China and there is no website or information on this company except from the Ebay sellers. Not worth the chance.

Re: Replacing JBL Non navigation with a Navigation system
Steve, Welcome to the forum! There was much discussion awhile back about this. If I remember correctly, 2007 TCHs sold in Canada did not have NAV available from the factory. The dealers added it. Some owners added it themselves also. Seems to me that the downside was that it didn't include the TCHs energy screens...or it was a challange to get that feature. But this doesn't seem to be an issue for you. I bet a search would easily bring you to the thread.

The reason the energy screen were not available to us Canadians was that the unit installed by the dealers was the unit intended for the regular Camry.
I believe Dang in Calgary did manage to get a Hybrid Camry Nav system from the U.S. somehow and installed it, thus getting energy screens.
Search for Dang's posts I think he posted here how he did it.
