TIRE Sizing Question

I need to buy new tires, but the Michelin greenX tires I want are available only in sizes 215/65-r16 or 225/60-r16

which size would work in place of the 215/60 -r60 called for.

here is a link to what i'm looking at:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes....artnum=16TR5HE

you guys are more knowledgable about tires that I am, so any assistance would be helpful

thanks

Re: TIRE Sizing Question

It all depends on what you are willing to give up.
to keep as close to the original diameter the 205-65-16 are the closest however they are 1 cm narrower or about 3/8" less width but almost the same dia, which should not effect you speedo and gps.

the 225/60 will be slightly larger and 1 cm wider

the 215/65 will be the same width but slightly larger in dia.

Now taking everything into consideration the camry is known for being about 3% under true speed so the 215-65 might be your best option bring you speedo to near accuracy and keeping the same width.

the 225-60 will be slightly larger and wider might suffer with gas mileage however better in dry

as for the 205-65 will be same dia as factory but less performance in dry and better traction in snow as the thinner the tire in snow is the better given all things as to make etc are equal

a good choice, if it was me I would go with the 215-65 to keep the speedo accurate as possible and have a true and accurate gas mileage/consumption.

hope this helps

Re: TIRE Sizing Question

I see the HydroEdge 215 60R16 listed that fits the TCH. It's on back order, so tire rack should be able to estimate when they would get them in. Frustrating when you find the tire you want and it's out of stock. Could be it's a hot seller with the new green-X designation.

Re: TIRE Sizing Question

Tire Rack may be based in Ohio. They sent my tires from a Shreveport warehouse to here in New Mexico in about 3 days by ups ground.

Actually the experience seemed easier that buying them at some local tire dealer.
