2007 Toyota Prius scangauge ?

I was looking at a scangauge for my 2007 Prius. I just don't know if my car is a CAN or OBD2 connection.
If anyone can help me with this I would be very thankful. I do not want to order the wrong thing.

The SG will work just fine. Your car has an OBDII connector, just beyond the lower edge of the dash forward of your right leg.

Bill,

Your Prius has an OBD2 connector that uses the CAN protocol.

The SG can handle most protocols used with OBD2 including CAN. If you buy a different unit, just be certain that it explicitly supports CAN.

Note that the SG2 is due for a firmware upgrade shortly that will extend its reporting capabilities to include information about hybrid data (Traction battery voltage/current, SOC, ...) so you may want to wait a while before getting one (date is still uncertain). They promise to support firmware updates, but it will require sending your SG2 back to them.

Thank you. I just was not sure about the CAN thing.

Every car sold in the US since 1995 (all 1996 models and some 1995 models) are required to have an On Board Diagnostic version 2 (OBD2) socket near the knees of the driver. Many companies make diagnostic plug-ins to use this socket to read/reset diagnostic parameters stored in the car's computers. They have varying capabilities and reasonable ones can be purchased for less than $100. Some professional units can cost several thousand dollars. Be sure that the one you get can handle the CAN protocol.

The ScanGuage2 is a variant on these units that is suited for semipermanent mounting in a car so that it displays useful data that the driver can select. It costs $169 and you can read about it at their web site:

Actually you are incorrect. OBD2 started in 1996, prior to that it was OBD1.

The Scangauge II is to the right of the steering wheel. Sorry for the poor image - it was meant to be small and to show both the SG II and the GPS (Garmin Nuvi 650) positioning on the dash.

Re: 2007 Toyota Prius scangauge ?

There should be a sticky thread on Scangauge for the Prius. It would be cool to have one place to go to find this kind of info out. And that includes the version. I've heard lots of folks talking about a new version but no one seems to mention the version numbers. I recently purchased my Scangauge, so I guess I'm just noticing the sparseness of info more accutely. Incidentally, my version is 3.14.

Is it normal to see the MPG in the range of 1000-9999?
