I know that I can take the car in and sign a waiver to turn off the beeping when the car is in reverse, I plan to do this as soon as I have time.

Can they also turn off the beepng when the seatbelt is not on? If not, does anyone know how to do so?

I can't stand beeping, really, I don't even use an alarm clock because I hated the sound so much ( didn't have a radio alarm when I was in high school) that I got myself used to waking up early so I wouldn't have to listen to it.

I really hate beeping.

So, does anyone know how to disable these beeps? I plan to have the dealer turnoff the reverse beeps, but if anyone knows how I'd just assume do it tomorrow :P

Hi Rationalrevolution:

___The ability to silence the reverse beep is in your 04 Prius’ Owners Manual. I don’t own a Prius to tell you exactly where but it is a common question and easily fixed by the owner. Someone has posted the Reverse beep disable instructions over at Priusonline a number of times if you cannot find it directly.

I don't recall it being in the manual, though you may be right. I have already disabled the reverse beep and will be doing the same for the seatbelt beep (it's the same process).

Here are the instructions:

1. Power on (not neccesarily ready, IG-ON will do).
2. Set Trip/ODO to ODO
3. Power off.
4. Power on to ready (brake on).
5. Within 6 seconds, press and hold ODO for 10 seconds or more.
6. WHILE STILL HOLDING ODO *after* 10 seconds, Shift from P to R,
then back to P. Now release ODO.
7. You'll see in the trip pisplay "b on" or "b off".
8. Press ODO to toggle.
9. Now power off.

I THINK that to do the seatbelt, you simply unbuckle/buckle instead of shifting from P to R.

Wow, this is like some kind of secret viedo game code sequence :P

Thanks

Edit:

Yes, this worked, on both counts, thanks!

BTW, for the seat belt you buckle the belt after having held the ODO for 10 sec, then you hit the ODO again to toggle, then unbuckle.

Very nice. I use my seatbelt, but obviously there re time when you want to take it off for whatever reason, to grab the cell phone or take your wallet out, or you simply haven't got it on yet in the parking lot, whatever.

Anyway, thanks.

I haven't been able to get the seat belt beeper to stop. I've attempted to many times. A few times I buckled and then unbuckled after holding 10 seconds (still holding ODO). Some I just put it in. Others I just took it out. Argh!

Update. 3 months later :D

I got the seatbelt beep to stop a while ago. I guess it just took another try?
