Question Oil Change Interval: M1 /w Syntec 5W30

I just had my first oil change at 8000km or 5000mi; i changed it with Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil 5W30: did it myself:D

My question is:
Is it safe to change my oil change routine/interval from Q5000mi (toyota recommended with regular oil) to Q10,000Mi or every 16,000KM; I know there is no benefit of changing synthetic oil every 5000mi or 8000Km it's supposed to be made to outlast regular oil.

please advice
thanks

regards,
gj

Hey Camel, I believe that the best way to maintain Prius oil is to use synthetic at 10-13k mi intervals and analyze the used oil. If you DIY, the interval cost will be about $45.

A running record of "engine wear metals" in Prius oil would be neat because it would tell if bearings etc. were on the way out. But so far only scattered engine oil analyses have been posted to the groups. Not enough to say if synthetic oils "protect" any better than dino. So far, the only wear metals reported have been in initial oil changes.

Good start. Just don't forget the transaxle oil needs to be changed at ~60k mi. When I changed my transaxle oil at 53k mi., it was eye opening. I'm still investigating transaxle performance.

BTW, I also recommend having your used oil tested especially when you go to extended intervals. This replaces guesses with facts and data. Be sure to submit a virgin sample to the same service as a benchmark.

Thanks again Tochatihu and bob,

You two have always given me good advices;
I know I made the right move changing to synthetic.
It also lengthens the change intervals.

thanks agian,

Isn't there going to be a problem since Toyota calls for 5000 mile oil changes? Are you going to give them a possible out if you have engine problems under warranty? I would stick with 5000 miles, at least until the warranty expires.
