I just got my 2005 FEH back from the dealer after experiencing the same problem (my first breakdown since I bought the car new in April 2005). ICE cut off while doing about 50mph on the Interstate, with the "Stop Safely Now" message (yeah...try that maneuver when you're doing 50 in the middle lane during rush hour traffic). After I weaved my way over, I was unable to restart the vehicle and had to have it towed to a dealership.

Service guy claimed the problem was related to the "service harness" recall. Sounded fishy to me, but then again, I didn't know I had a high voltage battery a/c filter that needed to be replaced either. No charge on the service harness install (although I'm still trying to figure out what what they did).

I've only driven it about 30 miles since then with no additional problems. But my gut tells me they didn't fix the actual problem. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for the info on the relays. Might save me another tow.

Ford issued a service recall on the hybrid battery harness last year in September 2007. There was also a sight software change in that the transistion from ICE to EV became smoother and less noticable.
