Default Transaxle Lubrication

I came across a patent application on "freepatentsonline" that causes me to infer that the FEH transaxle has an oil pump that is geared from the ICE input to the transaxle. Thus it only pushes oil around when the ICE is running. Didn't say this directly but why put in the patent unless you're changing something.

Anybody got any info on this? How about some info on the oil flow path inside the transaxle?

Appreciate it.

Default Re: Transaxle Lubrication

My inference is that the FEH transaxle either runs on residual oil, has a "drip cup" high in the transaxle case that is filled while the ICE runs, or just uses MG 1&2 to sling oil around when the ICE is off.

So I'm wondering if there's a time element to how far/how long you can go on the battery.
