Default 1,000+ miles in an HCH II

I just filled up my HCH II this morning. I went 1,043.7 miles at 74.4 mpg according to the dash. I put in 14.035 gallons. My last fill up was July 1.

The tank was topped off. I tried very hard for fuel economy this entire tank. I drove extra miles in the process. I did lots of FASing and some P&G. This tank was all my driving. (No wife driving on this one.)

John,

Way to go! 74.4 is double what the jazz pianoman suing Honda was getting

What were your typical speeds 40-50?

Thanks. My typical speeds were more around 30-40 mph. The speed limits on my normal work commute vary from 25 to 35. Another commute I made a lot of on this tank has several miles of 55 mph limits (although I don't usually get that fast--maybe 45-50).

I only had about 45 miles of interstate driving on this tank. For that, I drove ~55 mph DWL and averaged about 70 mpg.

55mph and 70 mpg? hum...Any drafting involved? When I'm on the interstate it seems the best I can get is 63 mpg at 55 mph... And this is with some drafting too. (3 second spacing) Most of these trips are through the Appalacians though so maybe that is it...

No drafting. I think I did one FAS that helped a bit. However, I don't really like the restart at those speeds. I do have my tires at ~45 psi and I'm using Mobil 1 0W-20. Those things help some.

Excellent accomplishement on 74+mpg

Really impressive.

Yes great job!
You have beat my own HCH 1 CVT personal record by about 20 miles
