Tail Lights

Re: Tail Lights
Thanks bud,
If you promise not to tell anyone I'll tell you a secret.
The lowers are NOT leds ... they're a regular dual filament bulb.
They just look that way because of the existing little stubs on the reflector.
It's made that way from factory so that the turn signals emulate the top segment leds.
What we did is use a different bulb base, 3157 dual filament bulb, and modified the harness to draw the parking signal from the side marker.
AND we kept the other base as well. So there are two lower extensions to the harness so that I can put it back to stock as I please.
Btw we did try LEDs but they were too bright ... And it's important for the upper and lower sections to have matching illumination levels so as not to confuse drivers behind.

Re: Tail Lights
Im really impressed...in the picture the lower bulbs truly do look like leds!!
Serge, have you replaced your reverse light with leds yet? I remember renting a cadillac DTS a couple years ago that had them...they could light up a football field! They look sharp, and will probably help with visibility on the back-up cam at night.

Re: Tail Lights
Hey Serge, Just picked up some white smd led's for the reverse lights.
Do you think that lower-powered led's would work for the turn signals without being too bright...
Like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/3157-Super-R...item519c4d54fa
Also did you have to use load resistors on the led's when you tried them out?
Thanks

Re: Tail Lights
Oh shoot ... those are the wrong leds buddy.
You need the tower ones with smt that wrap around the bulb in order to reflect the light off of the reflectors.
Ugh, I just haven't had time to dig up my receipts to get you the exact model.

Re: Tail Lights
Okay so:
DRL: http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED-B...72044-1-2.html (no resistors needed)
Front turn signal: http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED-B...70676-1-2.html
Resistors for front turn signal: http://www.v-leds.com/BlinkerWarning...-p4783296.html
Backup: http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED-B...14760-1-2.html
I would avoid leds for your rear turn signal lights.
If you browse the V-Leds site they have other cheaper option available for each bulb, but these are the one's I use.
Just do me a favor and unscrew one of your tail lights and look at the backup bulb to double check it is indeed a 7440 ... it may also be a 3157.

Re: Tail Lights
Serge, im pretty sure i ordered the right ones for the reverse lights
They look like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-pcs-T20-74...item3f112745f7
the link i posted above was just an idea i had of using lower powered led's so the turn signals are not too bright.
