Default '09 HCH II Tire Problem - Need Help

I recently got the low tire pressure indicator. The right rear tire had 26 psi. I keep the tires overinflated. The other 3 were at about 48 psi. It turned out I picked up a nail, and I had it repaired. However, the mechanic showed me that the tire was bald! The left rear was also wore down some, and the fronts both looked fine. I have about 13,500 miles on these tires. Is this the problem reported on the '06 and '07 HCH II's with a rear control arm? Should I check with the tire co. or with Honda? I'm not a happy camper. No such problem with my '06 HCH II with 50K miles.

I'd take some good pics of each tire, and then hypermile right over to the dealer – ASAP.

It may not be the problem, but you definitely have a alignment problem! Whats your mileage? Hal

Donald,

How even was the wear on the bald tire? I've always heard that over-inflation can cause uneven wear. If the tire was bald on the sides or just the middle, the high tire pressure could be the problem. I run 40psi but don't see any unusal wear. I'm at 44K miles on the original tires.

The left rear tire was down to about 2/16" also. After checking with Honda, the dealer replaced the 2 rear tires. The fronts had 6/16" each. I still feel that a problem exists in the rear of my HCH II. On my '06 HCH I also overinflated the tires and did not have a tread wear problem until I traded it in around 60K miles(I had cupping then). FWIW the new OEM tires measured 71/2 sixteenths. According to tire rack, they should be at 10/16 in. Soo... does Dunlop sell Honda cheaper OEM tires??

thats what happens when you over inflate your tyres, they get bold prematurely.

I overinflated the tires on my '06 HCH, and still do on my '07 Fit. I would expect that tire wear would occur on all 4 tires, and possibly in the center of the tire. I've not experienced this with any of my tires.
