2006 HCH Recals everyday morning under 30 degF & gas mileage is between 34 to 38 MPG
Hi everyone,
My 2006 Honda civic hybrid is re calibrating everyday morning while driving to office (within about 1 mile) and after that there is no recalibration. Gas milage is between 34 -38 mpg. No IMA or checkengine light. Charging, Autostop and Assist is working fine.
I tried power reset by removing negative terminal of 12V battery and also did battery test - measuring 12.2 Volt.
Please let me know in cold condition whether battery will down to 2 bars then force regen and comeback to normal only when engine get proper temperature.
Is it problem with IMA battery or ?
Am new to Hybrid vehicle.
Thanks
Vijay

This exact same thing happened to me. I would shut off the engine at night with battery at 6-8 bars. When I start the engine it would still have the same number of bars. But when I start driving, this would drop to 2 bars and would start calibrating. In my case, the IMA light would come up during the recal half the time.
The problem was with IMA battery. Its usable capacity had dropped to 24%. I replaced the battery and have not had the problem since.

Thanks for the quick response, I am not getting IMA light even if I drive in slow traffic. Dealer asked me to drive for other 2-3 weeks but its more than 3 weeks now, no IMA light. I am getting recal only in the early morning drive. Anyother possibilities ? or how to increase the usable battery level from 24% to more ?

You can completely restore the battery just by draining it down to 100V with light bulbs, and then charging it to 100% (around 180V) for a few hours to reset the pack. You can do this a couple times (cycling the battery). However, you would need a bio-rad or grid charger, and multi-meter, and bulbs/connections. I restored two batteries doing this and I never get re-cals. (used to get them at the start of a trip like you do)

Hi Hunter,
I tried your solution with the help of my mechanic, it was ok for 2 days after full recharge.. then again recalibration started now frequency is reduced (only once in the morning) and am driving daily about 40 - 60 miles. My freeway drive gas mileage increased to 41 mpg. Other than that nothing much difference.
Yesterday I even tried to drive in hill road with full utilization of assist, battery was fully in regen mode with 2 bar battery and I tried to drove it for more than 30 mins in low speed just to see IMA or check engine light. But no luck.
Dealer wants IMA light to look into this Recal issue. Please advice if anyone has idea on this.
Thanks in Advance.
