extremely poor milage
over the past couple weeks I have noticed a large drop in mileage.
i am currently getting 32 MPG. my battery is constantly at only 2 or 3 bars and never goes into a consistent forced recharge.
i put it in park and held it at 2k rpm until it charged all the way, I then drove home at about 45-44mph on flat roads, when I arrived about 30 miles later the battery was less than half full.
should I take it in for service.
any recommendations?

Re: extremely poor milage
Consider turning the a/c off and compare your results. It IS hot out there and while my HAH mpg doesnt change my 02 prius mpg drops like a rock. I wish I could get by without the a/c but its hot out there.

Re: extremely poor milage
Is it possible that your battery is recalibrating.
I would give it a day or two. Other thoughts are the CVT transmission, leaving AC on all of the time due to extreme heat that we have been having. Do you have a ScanGauge and if so, are you throwing any codes?
Hope this helps.

Re: extremely poor milage
i did some highway driving and the state of charge went back up, and the milage is mid 30s on this tank now, but i normally get 45-48.
i will keep driving and see how it goes.

Brand new '07 HCH owner;
I have about 1k miles on the car now and have NEVER gotten below 40mpg. I live in FL and its VERY hot here in the summer. I run the AC 100% of the time and drive as fast as 70 mph on the highway(usually a little slower, never faster).
After the engine breaks in I expect a slight increase in mileage, but you should be able to drive the HCH like any other car and still get respectable numbers.
I suppose its possible that you're standing on the pedal to accelerate, braking hard and driving faster than 70.
That might force your mileage down into the 30s. If you're driving carefully there is definitely a mechanical issue. Perhaps the intake/exhaust system has an issue?
