Granted, I am only on my 3rd tank and equally new at my driving technique, I have filled all the way up to the neck and was well into 400 miles before hitting the half-way mark. But, when refueling I was able to put in 9.073 gallons with an indication of half full.

Still, I feel confident that given the right terrain, you can certainly get a 1K tank.

Hi Jahwerx:

___God Bless you for not only trying but for far exceeding what the HCH is actually rated for

___DTDriver, there have been 1,100 mile tanks already achieved by RJbarlow in his noon-PZEV based HCH w/ a MT …

___Good Luck

*UPDATE*
I started with 4 bars at 850 miles this morning. Within 20 miles the gauge drops consistently and rapidly to ZERO bars with the fuel light obviously on. Clearly, I think I'm screwed: 130 miles to go with no bars.

So another 20 miles and I'm at work. Miraculously, I get 1 bar back (Fuel light still on), so I figure at least 900 miles is a nice milestone

Then lo and behold, after 5 minutes of leaving work, I get back ANOTHER 2 bars (total 3 bars) and the fuel light goes off. The gas gods appear to be smiling.

I continue home and my trip OD is at 931.7 with 2 bars and no light on.

Tomorrow is the payoff day I think I can, I think I can.

Ah those goofy fickle bars. May the Gas be with you.

Yeah the car needs to be on perfectly level ground and remain still for as much as a few minutes to get a totally accurate, repeatable fuel level check. Part of the reason they aren't shy about having the fuel light come on is because cars aren't left on level ground when they are driven, the fuel can slosh all around the tank, so it's safer for them to make the gauge very willing to show empty rather than risk having the car starve out on an incline/cambered road and be unable to restart due to the fuel sloshing away from the fuel pickup. Good luck though.

The gas gods smiled.

1,002.5 miles @ 66.6 MPG indicated

filled up to the top of the neck (yes, I could see the gasoline) at 15.496 gallons!

That's a new First for 15.496 gallons!! No one else has ever reported putting more than 15.2 gallons in an HCH !! Assuming that pump was properly calibrated, you have made HISTORY on GH.COM !!! Congrats !!!

I thought that might be true as well, but then I scanned the tanks for the hypermilers and rjbarlow has a 16.027 gallon fillup from july this year. So I still had another good 35 miles in my tank!

Here's the documentation:

Get to a gas station quick before you run out now! Cause I would have to laugh if you made it 1000 miles on a tank and then ran out going to get gas. The irony would just be ridiculous. Do tell the final number though!
