I've had my 2004 HCH CVT AT-PZEV (clean state) HCH1 since April 2004.
I have 36 tanks with an average of 60.1 MPG.
This is second place in greenhybrid's database for this car.
(A deep bow to Hot Georgia - a most worthy competitor but quite frankly I am getting tired of looking at your butt.)
They say that unless you are the leader of the pack the view never changes.

My worst tank was 51.7.
My best tank was 66.6 MPG.

Yesterday I ordered a Mag Pearl 2006 HCH without Nav.
Delivery is expected March or April.
I may change my mind and get the Nav though.
I'm also considering getting XM.

I think I am going to sell my 04, or it may be passed over to a family member who could use a nicer car.
KBB.com says it is worth $20,000 even with 20,000+ miles - I paid $19,300, $2000 under MSRP before gas prices shot up .
I have never before seen an appreciating car.

It will be interesting to see the MPG I am able to get with the HCH2.
I have been driving the same commute for 20 months so I have a lot of data.
This makes for a very reliable comparison.
I have pretty much optimized my MPG on this route.

___Although I do not understand how you can sell an HCH-I w/ that many miles on it for what you can get a brand new 06 HCH-II for after the tax credit, I can see why you would be doing so! You are basically receiving a brand new car for free other then the taxes … I cannot wait until you have it in your hands and to see your lmpg jump right off the lot. Given your commute and conservative but not radical driving habits and techniques, I can see the HCH-II’s EV mode addition being a boon to help increase over and above your current excellent FE in your CVT based HCH-I. I will be waiting patiently for the day you take her home!

Will you put your HCH II in the correct category, or stay in the HCH I category and force H_Georgia to forgo AC forever to stay on your tail ?

 

I look forward to seeing your results. The car has just barely surpassed the first-gen CVT's average on this database but that's because it hasn't broken in and it's winter in many places. The car is so much better than the first one, even at just rolling / gliding, that it's certainly capable of much more.

 

I think the KBB estimate is overly optimistic.... I am betting that you will actually receive 2K less than that.

If you do get more, the person overpaid for it.

And you have to pay sales tax on your new car.

 

KBB takes zip code into account.

Perhaps you are in a zip where people are NOT paying $5K over MSRP for new ones.

Also I Know I will be paying sales tax when I register in California.

 

Kenny, I don't think he is saying you are trying to get out of paying the tax. I think he is saying it will be an additional expense offseting some of the savings.

Blueskies, Don't rush to judgement about what is considered overpaying for a car. Its all supply and demand. If there are a lot of cars out there then sure, Kenny won't get as much as he thinks. However, it is quite possible Kenny knows the market conditions in his area better than you. So just because somone pays a lot more than you would or that is the going rate in your location doesn't mean they are overpaying for the car.
