Default Wheel Tech Question.

Ok Guys.

I just picked up an 05 HCH. And im looking about putting aftermarket wheels on the car.

Now Does anyone know the weight of the stock wheels and tires? Im thinking about 12-18 for the rim, and 18-22 for the tires for an overall of 30-40lbs

Anyways Im want to keep the overall weight the same or less. The wheels I want are centerline RPM's they are 15.4lbs ea in 19x7.5" and the 215/35/19 tires, The tires I want are 20.8bs. (I know it will make the speedo about 2.7% slow if my math is correct)

So Im asking does anyone know exactly what the stock wheels and tires weigh together? If its less than 35lbs then Im going to find a lighter wheel or go down in size..

Stock should be about 31 pounds; 16 for the wheel and 15 for the tire. Also you'll want to call Centerline and see if they will give you your money back if the wheel is more than 10% overweight. I have serious doubts that any streetable wheel can be that light in that size, regardless of what they claim. Tell them you want a moneyback guarantee and they'll either back it or suddenly be "not so sure" what they weigh.

I'm going to say that the extra amount of tire touching the ground will be the main loss for FE. Weight of the tire and the wheel probably won't make that much of a difference.

They claim the wheels are good for 1100lbs of load rating ea. And have a 3 year structural and finish guarantee. But yes I will have to weigh them and make sure they are what they claim.

With a lighter rim and tire package you will gain efficency. The additional width of the tire has more contact patch so yes it will have more rolling resistance, and 19" tires are stickier. BUT at say 40psi of tire pressure the rolling resistance differnce is negligable.

If the stock rim and tire is 31lbs, I am going to have a difficult time getting an aftermarket wheel and tire to weigh 31lbs or less, and still be strong enough to be driven on the street...

My roommate's 17x7.5's are 15 pounds, but then again, they were $600/ea custom 3-piece wheels he got just for autocrossing. It's definitely hard to find larger wheels down in that weight range. There's no shortage of 17's under 20 pounds though, and personally I think 17" is a good size, visually, for the Civic.

Yes I was looking at some pictures over at 7thgencivic.com of wheels on the car. 19" looks too big. Im probably going to go with 17" or 18" at the most.

I told a buddy of mine about the car day before yesterday, and he went to the dealership today and got a HCH today after he spend $100 filling up his Excursion.

Check out Volk wheels, hard to get but very light..and if you could go down to 195's that would be better too.

Im probably going to go with a 205/45/17" on a 17x7 centrline wheel. They claim 1200lbs of load rating, and 13.1lbs ea. because of their patented Rotary Forgeing 1pc wheels. I like the centerlines for the price, weight, and they look nice. $139ea for polished forged wheels, hard to beat that.

But I will call them tomarow and see if they stand behind the wheel weights and load rating.

Thanks for asking this questions - I've had the same one. I've found 15" rims that are 10 lbs (OZ Superleggera), but I really like these Centerlines (I like the Storm and RPM). Question - do you know the difference between chrome and polished mirror finish? Was wondering why one was more expensive.

Also, have you done any looking into the impacts of different wheel diameter on the Hybrid? I'm assuming that if stock is 185/70R14, then 195/60R15, 205/50R16, etc. are all roughly equivalent. True?
