I won't dismiss the Fit as junk, but did the Honda engineers get the "GM design by commitee syndrome"?

 

Hold on fellas: Is some of this negativity fueled by rumours? Nothing I can find on the web indicates that the US Fit will be that thirsty at all....

mpg in the mid-50's seems about right...hope that's the fact.

 

This is all speculation, based on a source who supposedly viewed a teaser video distributed to Honda dealerships.

The 51.4-56.5 MPG you mentioned seems to be more inline with the 1.3L Fit/Jazz that is available in Europe/Asia equipped with the CVT. The tape supposedly mentions that the U.S. will be getting a 1.5L with a 5 speed automatic.

Just like everyone here, I hope TOV's source is wrong and that we do indeed get the 1.3L with the CVT.

 

That fitfreak website has two problems, both stemming from the fact it appears to be a European website. Number one, their FE figures are always more conservative than our EPA numbers, which many argue are at the conservative end of the American driver spectrum. Second, those are typically in imperial gallons. 1 gal imp = 1.2 gal standard. So 48mpg IMP would be like 40mpg standard, which if you further adjust for the difference between euro and EPA standards would be maybe high 30's.

 

lol at this rate i'm going to get a used hybrid for the same price as a new honda fit!!!

NO CVT? WOW that was one of the reasons i wanted the fit in the first place, the crazy 7 speed CVT! GJ HONDA way to sell out your north american fans i'm off to toyota!

--- Well, that's about what the Toyota Echo gets. They're both inexpensive, no-frills entry-level cars. You can't expect a sub-$14k car to get hybrid-level gas mileage.

 

but the honda fit in japan with the DSI 1.3 (same engine in 06 hybrid) gets almost 25 K/ a litre! that's nearly 4 litres/100 km.... so in the 60 mpg almost. that's highway but still that's VERY IMPRESSIVE for a small car with no hybrid stuff. on other reviews and such people managed 10 to 15 K a litre in crawl slowing traffic, thanks to the efficient CVT.

PFF now i have to cruise in 1st and 2nd gear in slow *** traffic? #@$@#$#@ that.

___Getting hybrid like FE is easy in a car weighing in at between 2,200 and 2,400 #’s with the HCH-I or II’s ICE. Gear it exactly the same and leave IMA out of it. You may lose a 1 second in the 0 - 60 dash w/ the loss of IMA and gain most of that back because of the lower weight. If the aerodynamics are similar with the Fit having a smaller frontal area and maybe another .02 Cd, the Fit should receive exactly what the HCH-I or II does on the highway. Saying it shouldn’t is Honda’s internal politics telling the engineers to not let it receive the FE of the almost twice as expensive HCH-II, pure and simple. I am really ticked if Honda releases the Fit at just 32/37 city/highway. For a speculated < $1,000 more, you can purchase the much larger and already well established Toyota Corolla and receive better FE! The Corolla may be small but when looking at the B-Class sized sub’s, (Aveo and Aerio), they are really really small.

such horse radish and i was beggining to believe in honda every since they rolled out "safety for everyone" on their civics. considering old civics scored very poorly on crash tests. Therefore you know Honda is listening to us and making it better BUT NOT LIKE THIS
