Toyota raises prices slightly on Prius C, Camry Hybrid
Filed under: Hybrid, Toyota, USA
Toyota is banking that customers will be willing to trade around 40-50 gallons of gas for a chance to drive the most current versions of the Prius C and Camry Hybrid models, because that's the price difference between the 2012 and 2013 versions of these vehicles.
The world's largest automaker boosted the price of the compact Prius C by $130 to a base price of $19,080 and the deluxe version to $23,360. The 2013 Camry Hybrid's price will be up $165 to a base of $26,140 and a top-line price of $27,670. Other Toyota models getting the inflation treatment include the Highlander Hybrid (a $200 hike) as well as the Sienna, Tacoma and Sequoia lines.
Introduced in February, the Prius C has sold 32,582 units through November, enough to count for about a fourth of all Prius vehicles sold in the US. Year-to-date sales of the Camry Hybrid, whose most recent version was released late last year, have jumped fivefold from a year earlier to 41,201 units.
