I have always found that the extended warranties are not worth it...but I see that a lot of folks here seem to have purchased it...talk to me about it...and I am seeing that apparently you can purchase it after the fact? More info please!

Thanks!

I bought the warranty because this is the first camry hybrid ever and is basically untested, so no one know what it's reliability will be.
Paying 650 to extend your warranty to 7 years is a reasonable price in case the car has a major system malfunction during that time.

.... this car is packed with so many technological advances that if one of the malfunctions, it would probably cost a pretty penny to replace.

... I have never been a big fan of getting my car serviced by the dealerships because they overcharge. For my old car, I had to replace the driver side power window MOTOR... cost me 600 dollars at the toyota dealer and I find out later that it could have been done by a reputable local guy (who specializes in windows) for only 300.... With that said, since this is a hybrid, I wouldn't trust local guys to touch it {because how many people are trained to work on hybrids?} and will strictly be getting servicing through the dealer, so the extended warranty is good for that reason.

Pure FUD.
Toyota has been making hybrids for over 10 years. They have been making Camry's longer than that.
The Gen3 and Gen3 Prius models were rock solid from day one.
I paid $100 less for my TCH warrantee than I did on my '07 XLE-V6.
My TCH car insurance less too for the TCH. Not a whole lot less I admit.

I talked to the dealership today, I am going in tomorrow to cancel the warranty at the same time getting the jumper put on the Sirius/Toyota radio. I'll be looking for a 100,000 warranty. I'll have to go look at the other post on who has the best deals.

I just paid $695 for the 7/75/0 warranty from Toyota of Greenfield (as of August 31st). You can call Troy Dietrich there at 413-772-0231. Basically all he does is sell extended warranties at discount prices through the dealerships that the Cartelli Family owns in that area.

Yeah, I think you're right. Better still. If another dealer doesn't fix your car right through your warranty they'll send Tony to straighten them out. What a deal.

Just a dumb question on this - so it doesn't matter at all where you buy the extended warranty? I always thought you wanted to buy this at the place closest to where you live since they will be working on it.

Are there any downsides buying this elsewhere?

It's the same thing, the guy from Midwest (Kansas) entered my info in the Toyota computer and said I can take it to any Toyota service dept in the country. No downsides at all.
