Default Tire options for 2008 HyHi.

I have 35,000 miles and the factory installed P245/55R19 Toyos are worn out (my tires were inflated to 40 psi on average). All in all I thought the tire was crappy in wet and snowy roads. I would prefer Michelins. But the size is WEIRD!!!!

Can I change sizes or do I need new rims as well? What about calipers and warranties and TPMS chips in the tire valves and the tire pressure display?..ugh.. Does Toyota have me trapped into buying only THEIR tires?

Go to this site http://www.treadepot.com/

Click on Toyo and click on the Open Country HT P-Met

http://www.treadepot.com/group/ophtp.html

These are getting good reviews on wear and ride, are less then the A20's
You also avoid the price of the wheel change to the smaller wheel... Don't forget if you change sizes you also have to consider your spare.

I believe, or am hoping, we will have more tire options soon.

check out the michellin "energy saver" tire just released, its targetted for fuel eco users, but promises no compromises in all wet handling traction.

HH06, purchased used Feb 09 after came off lease.

Replaced the OEM Michelin Energy LX4 (docs with car said this model came standard with car and apparently previous owner had just gone to Toyota and had same installed) with new Michelin Lattitude Tour "energy" tires.

Excellent choice!

Just completed 3000 mile vacation trip and unblievably quiet, no tracking on road grooves, great handling and mileage same or better than the LX4s (of course LX4s were down to wear bars.) Interestingly enough, these new tires also have 65K mile tread warranty.

Not inexpensive, but heartily recommend buying five at once so can rotate as Toyota recommends (F - R on left side) and (F - R - Spare on right side) because as my wife says (tire manager at large Sears Automotive Center in past life) right side tires get worst wear on a US driven car.
