The Case of the Stolen Prius

Re: The Case of the Stolen Prius
Oh, I wish I could rememer how long ago it was that on PriusChat this was thouroughly discussed. And the general conclusion was that due to the checking and cross checking of the key id and the complicated and highly computerized starup sequence the car goes through, it was essentially impossible to hotwire the car. So, to actually do a drive-away theft, it would require a valid key.

Re: The Case of the Stolen Prius
My Prius was stolen from in front of my friends house in a very nice neighborhood. When the car was recovered I noticed that windows weren't damaged nor was the door tampered with. The people who stole my car probably took it on a flatbed according to the police. But my car was stripped-they took the engine, battery, entire dashboard-gone! My car was considered a total lost by my insurance company. I also believed that my Prius was safe from car thieves. Obviously, it was not!

The reputation of a Prius as a expensive car would make it a target for car stripping thieves.
