Default New (to me) 2005 Honda civic hybrid

Hello folks, I just took a 2005 civic hybrid in trade. It's a manual transmission car, high miles (260k) but in decent shape. It has the IMA battery light on and codes P1600,p1433, and P0420. Obviously it's got battery issues. It's got an extra battery pack in the trunk from a junkyard. Here are my questions:

1. Should I swap the packs to see if the junkyard one is better?
2. Can I take 2 unknown packs and make 1 good one?

I used to have a 2000 insight and I did a deep discharge with incandescent light bulbs which fixed my IMA issues on that car. I'm mechanically competent, but a newbie when it comes to batteries. Any advice?

1. Your call
2. Not without a lot of testing.

P0420 = bad cat. Can't remember if that model also had a patch due to false P0420.

Thanks folks, I appreciate the responses. I did the spark plug anti-fouler trick on my 2000 insight and it worked fine. I've got one left over, so I'll try it again. I'm not as worried about the P0420, but I would like to get the battery pack working well enough to use it. Should I start with a deep discharge?

Nope. Great way to kill a battery is with a deep discharge. You need to grid charge it for 10,400 mAh input at < 500mA.

Do you have a recommendation for an inexpensive grid charger I could buy or build? I see the one in your signature is outdated?

I just bought this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2003-2005-H...72.m2749.l2649

Hopefully it's a good one.
