Hybrid Car Market to Expand by 16X in 10 Years: Yano Research
Yano Research Institute Ltd. has announced that the worldwide sales of hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) may reach 5.37 million units in 2015 compared to the 0.32 million units sold in 2005. The company said this estimate is based on its market survey concerning automobile accumulator batteries conducted from May to August 2006.

I've got to say- this sounds like wonderful news to me if it does turn out as predicted. The fact that it was a Japanese research firm who made these predictions seems to be an indicator that they're retaining the 'edge' in hybrid technology, even as the US car companies scramble to make up for lost time. People here are just behind the curve! But if these trends are accurate, it should turn some heads in local industry- and maybe we'll see a change. I'm hopeful!
