Apology accepted.

I know at least one other member here that considers himself Christian but is not happy with the current energy policy.

I've bit my tongue on how local Republicans are endangering my workplace's existance in the face of an audit that clearly states it's far more efficient than privitization....

I was at a hybrid forum that humorlessly locked threads when mild politics was added to an energy-related thread. If a lot of general politics that does not necessarlily relate to energy/environment gets into the mix, a few will start shouting.

I know we have a lot of diverse opinions here. I'm of the belief that drastically reducing our use of oil has benefits that woudl be obvious to G. W. Bush as well as Howard Dean....

I'm also of the conviction that energy apathy is bi-partisan. It's very common knowledge that my "hot button" is people communting alone in huge vehicles.

I like that Edmund Burke quote that Evil prevails when Good men do nothing. If a substantial majority of the American public decided to communte in 30mpg+ vehicles, Detroit, oil companies, politicians would get serious - I'm convinced of that.

Hang on, did I just come back to this thread hoping to see new facts posted, only to find absolutely NOTHING except ranting and raving? Wow. So back on the fact-front, observe the following:

1992: Percentage of US that was imported: 46%
2000: Percentage of US that was imported: 61%
2005: Percentage of US that was imported: 64% estimated

The signs were clear from the fact that oil imports were rising like crazy, yet the Clinton administration never raised the red flag because heck, gas was $0.89/gallon, who's going to care? Why plan for the future when you can just tout how cheap gasoline is today under your administration's do-nothing-except-the-interns guidance?

{sigh} No sooner does this thread cool off, someone has to complain about a fight already over and proceed to incite another fight The Clinton and Bush administrations get bad marks on energy policy. It's sort of like the Steeler/Seahawk Super Bowl - about who sucks more rather than who is better.

Gentlemen, can we keep the partisan banter to a minimum so the thread does not get closed - please?

The first step in a 12-step program is for you to admit the problem. Unfortunately, your posting suggests you are still stuck in denial and blaming others for the problem. In contrast, many of us have moved on to problem resolution with hybrid-electric technology.

GW has made a statement that recognizes the importance of hybrid electric batteries. This was five years after transfering funding from the hybrid, 'high mileage' program to the hydrogen fraud. It s*cks less but there is still a long way to go. I for one am happy he appears to be starting the 12 step program.

Perhaps someday GreenHybrid.Com will start a "history of oil" forum but until then, go to the Wiki site and contribute to the 'history of oil' essays. GreenHybrid.Com is a great place where we enjoy discussing current hybrid-electric technology and news.

I agree, we can argue all day long about past administrations, but the reality the current one is the only one that really matters. What's past is past.

Boy talk about some thread drift! My original posting was about President Bush's energy initiative, and the sudden back peddling about what was [really] meant. The links to news stories I posted were stories resulting from a Whitehouse press briefing, the full text of which can be found here:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/relea...0060201-6.html

that said I now move this thread to the "Anything Goes" forum, (fits better there)

https://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/...7177#post47177

for contiuned discussion.
