Default Traded in my 2007

and have left (hopefully temporarily) the hybrid world. I LOVED my Camry (Jasper Pearle!) but decided that I needed a vehicle with more road clearance and 4 wheel drive. I haven't left the Toyota family though, as I traded it in for a Rav4. If the Rav ever comes out with a hybrid I will be among the first in line! (Didn't want the Highlander Hybrid - too big and $$$$). I will definitely miss my mileage!

Have fun with your Camrys!

Good luck with your new car. With TCH 07 book value of about $17k to $19k (good condition, lower miles) and MSRP for RAV4 starting at $22k, it's almost an even trade
According to specs online Rav4 clearance is 7.5 vs 6.1 Camry, not much but of course when you need that extra 1.4 inch, you need it.
Funny thing I just bought car for my wife yesterday, also SUV, used Hyundai Santa Fe for more space, 4 wheel drive etc., but not giving up TCH.

My daughter had a new generation RAV4 for about a year, gave it to her hubby when his Pontiac died...she said it was uncomfortable, and was like driving a cardboard box. Went back to a Camry LE.

Just another take.

You should love your RAV4, I had a 2nd gen one for almost 8 years and really enjoyed it's versatility and it was mileage friendly given it's capabilities. we used to average mid 20's, but the newer one is slightly bigger, so maybe not as much for you.

I too was always baffled why they never made a rav4 hybrid! I would have gotten one if that was the case.

RAV4 is the low (or lower) end of the SUV/Crossover market. Presumably, customers for this level of vehicle would have more resistance to paying a premium. I guess most manufacturers will offer the hybrid to the middle range of the market (like Highlander and Camry). I believe they make more money on the mid and upper range cars and use the lower end to build market share.
It's very expensive to run two separate lines for a model, so they had to pick and choose which to make hybrids.
As to Prius, which is effectively a hybrid Corolla, I guess that was their trial balloon. Now that hybrids are here to stay, they'll focus more on the profitable parts of the market.
You probably wont see Yaris or Matrix hybrids anytime soon.
Just a guess, however.
