Eric yours is good because it is a race but mine is good because of the outrageous correct answer that it can't be done. Mine is also good because when you try to explain it people can relate to the fact that 60mph is one mile in one minute so at 60 mph 2 miles would be 2 minutes. You already burned up your 2 minutes going uphill so the driver has no time left to go downhill.

Perhaps the best of both would be a there and back race where the first driver averages 60 mph for both runs. A second racer has trouble on his first pass and only hits 30 mph. How fast must the second driver's return leg be to beat the first driver?

You mean, that infinite MPG is not time travel ???

From my experience, it sure feels like it.

Indeed, nicely done. Most folks will argue that 90mph will do it. Their second guess is usually 120 mph. Almost no one will take the time to do the math and discover that you can not average 60 mph for any finite speed down the hill. An average of 61 mph would not be possible even at infinate speed down the hill.

The fact that I am confused by the responses to my own thread confirms for me that I made the right choice when I majored in history.

plus you couldn't instantly be going 90 from 30, there would have to be time to acelerate.

You do not have to keep beating up on your history major.

Try the law degree

The reality for most lawyers, is that if we could do math we would have went to med school.

She has a degree and has been social engineered on. I dont and havent. shes a educator by degree. Wonder why she cant learn to drive?
