Default Hybrid payback

Having recently looked at a used Tahoe Hybrid with 167,000 miles on it(nice condition and everything worked right), I pondered on comments some have made that a hybrid's payback is not worth it. I did some quick calculations on this guys hybrid and found the following:
167,000 miles at average of 19.0 mpg= 8789 gallons of fuel@ average of $3.25= $28,565
167,000 miles at average of 12.5 mpg(my 02's average)=13,360 gallons of fuel at average $3.25= $43420
Hybrid savings over 167,000 miles= $15,855. More than the extra cost for the hybrid.
Your mileage may vary, newer trucks may be better than my example.

I have an escalade hybrid I bought new in 2009 and now has close to 140k miles. I have seen the rewards/payback since I got it with 0% financing and also the $3500 tax credit for buying a hybrid.

As long as you keep it that long, the payback is definitely there. People think im crazy when I say mine gets 18 mpg. But then the regular tahoe gets 12 mpg. These are real world, city only driving figures, with my wife aka lead foot driving it. Im sick of people telling me their honda oddessy gets 28 mpg. Maybe on a highway, at 35mph, downhill. Under normal, city driving, fast acceleration at every light, your honda odessy nets 16-18 mpg.

so, tahoe hybrid = same gas mileage as a suburban mom wagon, and looks better. and it can yank a boat out of the water...

just keep it for 150K or so, and the payback is certainly there !

I'm down to 20.5 now that it's cold and the local ski hill is making snow.
