Power Assisted Steering... Gone

Re: Power Assisted Steering... Gone
Within a few weeks of rolling 150k on the odometer I have had my first major problem with the 08 Tahoe hybrid 😞
90°F Drove 20-30 mins. Parked truck for 10-15 mins. Started truck, put in reverse. Backed up about 10' while turning slightly. Steering "locked" (almost completely) and DIC read "Service Power Steering"
Hybrid battery cell temp avg 92°F
State of charge 56%
A/C on "max A/C" (60°, full fan, floor vent, rear vent, no recirc)
Nothing abnormal noted.
No check engine light
No codes stored
Disconnected neg battery terminal for 15 mins (3 times). No steering, no warnings.
Had to have it towed to dealership. Anyone else that has experienced this, any info on what the problem was and cost to repair?

Response** Bro, i got the SAME problem with this tahoe hybrid but mine is a 2009. On day i drove to video store to drop off a movie while i left truck running, i get back in, put it in reverse and low and behold the power steering was locked and NOT assisting. I had to tow it to dealer and pay$3200 to get the uh.. power steering module and this other electrical part replaced! I was mad! I was still making paymemts on it. I boight it with 120+ miles on it and when i hit the 160+ mile marker is when the EPS failed. This isn't right. To this day im mad and hurt! Ppl need to know about this

Re: Power Assisted Steering... Gone
besure to make a complaint with NHTSA .. the steering has to be fool proof / "fail proof"
at the worst has to be like moving a 50 pound sand bag
at lest it did not fail going 70MPH down the highway
like it did for me (total momentary power loss) I was going 55mph 4 brakes locked up,
No power steering "everything went off"
luckily the off ramp was empty. only two other cars on the road they were able to "move out of the way"

Not necessary true here. If the belt breaks on a non-hybrid, the power steering loses assist. The assist may stop working but "Arm-Strong" mechanical still works.
