Default Brakes and IMA

New '03 Civic Hybrid owner - bought mine at 105,000. At just over 107,000, I now have the IMA and Check Engine light on. Checked in at Auto Zone to pull the codes and it's the P1600 placeholder with a P1449 IMA battery issue indicator. Here's my question 'tho - I know the IMA battery regenerates with braking and I think I may have a brake issue that just arose also. Is it possible that the IMA problem indicated might be a result of bad brakes? Thanks for any experience with such and thoughtful replies.
