Yeah, I need a grid charger. That weak pack went all the way to full and kicked off. It hit 8312 mah. Weird. The other 3 still not done discharging.

Since that stick is in question, I'd run a max discharge to 6V and compare to the original. 8312 is a little high assuming a ~6A rate of charge. Did the stick get particularly warm?

Its not hot. It is warm and the charge is at 6.0 A. A discharge at max to 6V. Ok I'm running it.

You should see an improvement. It's still hard to say what the stick will do at high loads, but I would expect that 4100 number to be much closer to 5000 this time around after the deep discharge.

BTW... here's all you need to build a grid charger:

http://www.mouser.com/ProjectManager...sID=c7830875ec

You'll need to supply an AC power cable and charger leads, but that's it. It has no safety features, but hey... you'll be careful. I haven't blown mine yet

crw,

Since I'm giving you advice that contradicts the bulk of the conventional wisdom out there, I'm posting some recent numbers for an HCH1 pack I'm working on. Here's my method:

I am being VERY aggressive. I haven't blown anything up yet.

100 seconds of 90A load (cell voltage monitored, typically runs them up to 105-140°F)
15A discharge to 6V
10A discharge to 6V
1A discharge to 0.1V
.5A discharge to 0.1V
.2A discharge to 0.1V with immediate charge to full at 1C or less (via DCHG/CHG cycle).

Total cap, 15A cap, 10A cap, min V at termination of 90A load before/after:
1: 3658, 483, 675, 0.68V / 5815, 1435, 1005, 0.78V
2: 3840, 662, 678, 0.34V / 6115, 2004, 1361, 0.42V
3: 3914, 1151, 263, 0.57V / 5623, 2622, 501, 0.73V
5: 4347, 1063, 784, 0.55V / 5473, 2004, 969, 0.59V
6: 4546, 1318, 728, 0.45V / 5657, 2761, 396, 0.64V

Note that HCH1 sticks are rated at 6.5Ah, not the 5.5 of the HCH2, so these numbers
aren't as good as they would seem compared to your results.

I have been going thru the civic battery pack and will be nearing the end soon. I'm following the process that those of you here have generously shared with me. I will need a couple of new or good used stick pairs. I have read a lot even the insight crntra discussion of King Kong batteries. Where would anyone suggest I get replacements? Any reputable sources that anyone is aware of?

Check with Hybrid Revolt or Bumblebee Batteries.
