Re: My first 800 mile tank; first over 60 MPG
One of the best things about this site is the diversity of opinions, driving styles and purpose for owning a hybrid. When I first got my hybrid, I averaged about 48 mpg, and, to be honest, was satisfied. Now, I am averaging 59 mpg per tank.
I take ideas, I sample, I decide what works for me. It's great.
800 miles on a tank is something I should be able to obtain, I might even be able to stretch 900. But, that being said, I am not a 1000 mile person. Why? I am not that patient. Time, as well as money, are valuable to me. I just don't want to stretch my 1 hour 10 minute commute (each way) to 1:30. I have twin 7 year olds, and I WANT TO BE WITH THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE after I leave work.
All this being said, after I drove off with 24 quarts of Mobil 1 0W-20, the NAPA guy asked me about the hybrid. I told him about it, and told him about the adjustments I had made. I said, "... you have to learn how to drive it. It's a attitude thing."
He looked at me strangely.
He said, "you'd get good mileage without all these adjustments in your driving style, why do all this extra."
Predictably, I said, "Because I CAN!".
Oh, BTW, I got my "I get 50 MPG" bumpersticker this weekend for the HCH.
My wife said, "You didn't get me one of them (for the FEH)". I told her "earn it".
