Here are the official stats through November 2005:
http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...01/153705.html

In 11 months Honda sold 23,336 HCH, 16,106 HAH, 624 Insight.
Okay, for the whole year it's 25,846 HCH, 16,826 HAH, 666 Insight.

Only 666 Insights for 2005?

With production numbers that small it is hard to believe they are keeping it alive.
Plus, I think it is NOT AT-PZEV so even though EPA gives t 66 MPG it couldn't even qualify for California's carpool lane stickers.

I agree. It's strange that they haven't dropped it. Perhaps it's a desire to keep around the FE champ and score some points with the green crowd.

They haven't made any design changes to it in ages, as far as I know, and they don't spend a dime marketing it. So maybe the cost of keeping it going isn't very high.

I saw a bright red new Insight yesterday. Sure caught my eye.

It's Honda's "Halo Car". Plus, everytime FE statistics are published, guess who sits pretty at the top? The Insight. It also brings up the total FE of the entire car fleet.

It was a good idea, with poor execution. But it really does get great FE! And to think, whenever you buy one, you're getting a nearly hand-built car for $20k!

Congrats. I tried AAA myself and struck out. No one around here was willing to go anywhere near that low. One dealer's "AAA discount" was MSRP; their regular price was MSRP+$2500.

Two things surprise me about HCH sales. One is that full-year sales for 2004 and 2005 were essentially flat (a 1.5% increase) while Prius sales apparently increased about 100% from 2004 to 2005.

The other is that the HCH had an above average sales month in Dec. 2005 despite the delay in shipping the 2006 model.
