Default Your daily commute

Though it would be interesting to know what everyones commute looks like. Currently, mine is 100% city.

Cheers,
Stephane.

5 miles city and 75 miles highway, each way. Ugh!

Wow,

That's one hell of a commute! Thankfully most of it is highway. My commute is a lot shorter (~14 miles) but it's all city.

Cheers,
Stephane.

I put "close to 100% highway driving" - 85% to be precise.

Mine is mostly one mile stretches of 50 mph road separated by stopsigns. The problem is, those stopsigns back up! I have one stoplight and 7 stopsigns. It's over a 9 mile commute. At least three (sometimes more) of those stopsigns, there are at least 20-30 other cars lined up as I get there. All that stop and go and creeping is what kills my FE numbers. I don't even try to play the FE game during rush hour. I just get to work and back, and try to make up for it on the weekends by doing all our long distance errands in my car.

I have it easy, I think - 15 miles on a 2-lane at 50-55 and 20 miles on a divided 4-lane at 55-60. The speed limit on the 4-lane is 65 but everyone's pretty sane. The other thing I like is that traffic density is pretty low - on a recent day I counted (8) cars passing me on the way to work, (18) going home, all on the 4-lane - that's about a car every 3 minutes, on average. In other words, I can do my thing. Finally, there is one flashing light and one stop light on the route. There are plenty of days I can make it from my house to work without ever coming to a full stop.

I don't even have my HCH yet (early Jan), but I'm hoping to achieve some good numbers given this drive. The only downside is the snow and cold, though I have to say, 'hypermiling' sounds an awful lot like driving on snow and ice!

Hi subnivean,

looks like a nice commute. Where in Vermont are you from? I used to go down to Vermont often during the summers.

Cheers,
Stephane.

I live in Orwell, on the southern end of Lake Champlain, but I work in Rutland (aka 'Killington' when people give you a blank stare)

Cheers,
Stephane.

Mine is 26 miles of freeway, plus 2 miles of surface streets (1 mile at each end).
