July was a great month for the Toyota Prius lineup. Toyota Motor Sales, USA sold 23,294 Prius units in July 2013 versus 16,643 in July 2012 - a nearly 40-percent increase. In July 2013, the standard Prius Liftback sedan sold 15,252 units, the larger Prius V sold 3,428, the smaller Prius C sold 3,797 and the Prius Plug-in Hybrid moved 817 units.

While the July numbers are excellent, the story is a little less up for the first seven months of the year. Compared to the same time period in 2012, the Prius C is the only one with a sales increase thus far in 2013 - 26.2 percent. For the other three Prius variants, the sedan and plug-in hybrid are down slightly, and the Prius V has seen a 14.6 percent drop compared to the first seven months of last year.

The Prius family contributed to Toyota's US division doing quite well for the month. Overall, July 2013 saw 193,394 units sold (including Lexus and Scion). That's an increase of 12.6 percent over July 2012 on a daily selling rate basis, and 17.3 percent unadjusted for 25 selling days in July 2013 versus 24 in July 2012.
