There were a number of Prius's on both of the local Toyota dealers lots. One of the dealers has 7-8 and the other had closer to 15.
As mentioned above gas prices will mostly dictate demand for Hybrid vehicles. I think right now is the perfect time to get a Hybrid vehicle...No waiting list and gas prices are lower then they have been in a while. We're one disaster away from $3-$4 per gallon.

One more commercial:
A hybrid driver stopped at a light has a loud, large vehicle with two 'loud mouthed' jerks pull up. One shouts down to the hybrid driver, "Wanna' drag?"
The hybrid driver smiles, holds up a $50 and nods his head saying, "You bet!"
The light changes, the big loud vehicle roars and . . . <choke, choke, choke> dies and the gas gauge shows "E".
The hybrid driver pulls up; collects $50 from the loud-mouth; and drives on.
Voice over, "Hybrid <model> when getting there is important."
There are variations that start with the big ugly starting with a full tank and winning a no money drag to the next light. Then the hybrid driver offers a money bet and the big ugly runs out of gas. <GRINS>

The big, loud ugly pulls up along side the <model> hybrid and the two loud mouths start making all sorts of trash talk about the "little old hybrid" and roars off. (Use current skeptics claims.)
Voice over as the hybrid quietly pulls out, "It turns out that ... <facts and data about hybrids.>"
Down the road, the big ugly runs out of gas and the loud mouth is walking down the road with a gas can.
The hybrid driver slows down and asks, "Would you like a ride?" and the loud mouth looks down the road at the distant gas station.
Voice over, "Sometimes, saving gas makes a lot of sense."
As the hybrid with the loud mouth pulls down the road, the humble loud mouth asks, "Thanks for the lift but could I also borrow $20 for gas?"

How about the two intellectually-challenged guys from the Chrysler commercials?
I could see them stranded along the road...
A guy in a Prius stops by...
"Yeah, it's a hemi," they admit, sheepishly.
The Prius guy hands them a gas can, and drives off...

Interesting ad ideas, Bob! Though the one about comparing the two version of the Camry would probably never run- the same company owns them both so you'd never see them do an ad that makes one look significantly worse than the other.
How about an ad about how quiet they are? You could have a young family heading out to Grandma's or somewhere, with a baby asleep - everyone loads into the car, they turn the engine on and go, all in silence, without waking the baby. Compare to another family- not in a hybrid, with a loud engine- the baby wakes up when the engine starts and then cries through the whole road trip.
Or an ad set in a remote, deserted-looking area, with miles between gas stations, and show some sign at a gas station with two families filling up (Next gas- 500 miles). Have the regular-car family loading up extra gas cans while the hybrid-driving family fills up and then coasts on through, enjoying the wilderness, and the other family stops by the side of the road with their cans.
I can imagine a play on the Energizer bunny- it keeps going, and going, and going.... only it's a hybrid. You'd need a new, similar but not the same, slogan.
