Check codes.
Hello sir,

The car has been running fine for the past week or so but just want to make sure whether a standard OBDII scanner will be able to read codes pertaining to the HV battery before I purchase one.

I understand that all of these scanners would be compatible with my 2007 TCH, I am just unsure whether I need a more sophisticated scan tool to read HV battery codes.

The more common codes can be read with the cheapest of code readers. There are a group of codes that require professional grade hardware to pull them. I see no meaningful difference between the three you linked.

I appreciate the prompt response. I guess I will attempt to read codes with one of the basic ones that I linked and be back with an update.

Question Re: '07 TCH will not start, 12V battery problem?

Hi,

I was able to retrieve the following codes from my 2007 TCH:

- P0300
- P0302
- P0304

This was the OBDII tool I used:
Amazon Amazon

Reminder: check hybrid system (red triangle) and check engine light is on.

Any ideas on what's wrong?

Thank you

Misfires. Most likely spark plugs unless you KNOW they've been done in the last 60K miles, and you KNOW they were the long life iridium plugs. Consult Rockauto or Denso or NGK websites and obtain their recommended long life iridium plugs for your vehicle. If you can find the Toyota part number on a parts website, you can usually cross reference to the Denso or NGK part number.

If that doesn't fix it, you need may new coil packs, and I would only replace those identified, i.e., P0302 = cylinder #2, P0304 = cylinder #4, etc. Rockauto usually carries the OEM version for less.

Lastly, when replacing the plugs, inspect them. If they are wet or they smell like coolant, you may have a leaking head gasket.

Just got engine maintenance done and all four spark plugs replaced. Check engine light is now off and it drives much better, but check hybrid system light is still on.

Codes thrown after maintenance are:
- Hybrid system: P0517 -- Battery temperature sensor circuit high
- Air conditioning: B1421, B1423, and B1424

The mechanic who worked on my car is not a hybrid specialist but he said that the air conditioning codes should be a simple fix.

I was wondering if P0517 is thrown because I replaced the 12V battery and just taped the temperature sensor on, or if some separate battery temperature sensor (for the HV battery maybe?) is the reason.

In any case, what step do you recommend I take next?

First think is to re-tape the sensor and use thermal tape. If that does not work, consider changing the sensor.

Do the simple, cheap things first.

Are you sure the battery is not getting too hot?
