While I agree that gas in inner-city SF are probably one of the highest in the country, the rest of CA is still way above the average. I'm on the central coast about 1 hr south of San Jose, and I pay $3.43 (regular) at the no-frills places, which is what I think the CA-state average is about. Even my Costco is at $3.39 for regular. I was on vacation in SC 3 weeks ago and was surprised to see prices under $3.00.
