A little better mpg this time

A little better mpg this time
I was working toward 58 mpg for this tank. Today I had an appointment in town. It was hot, windy and with about 60% humidity and I had to use the AC. The humidity and AC efficiency don't mix very well. By the time I got home I had already lost the 6 tenths. (I was up to 57.6)
Here is a shot of the 57.6 mpg with 1/4 tank left. When I fill tomorrow using the calculator it will come out to about 55 or less.
I will wait till it cools off in late September and early October and try again w/o the AC.
I figure if I could keep this mpg, the car would go 985 miles down to a empty 17.1 gallon tank. Looks good with the calculator, but not in reality.

Re: A little better mpg this time
I never paid much attention to the average speed on the scan gauge. I'm sure it would be between 20 and 45 miles per hour for these last two tanks. The 20 would be the few miles on the old country road between our house and the highway. The 45 would be my highway speed to town and back. The in town speeds are usually 37 miles per hour.
I see in the SC instruction booklet page 34 that the XGauge can be set for miles per hour average, current, today, previous day or by the tank.
I will try to get used to this feature and see what I come up with on my next tank. I will be using the AC again so my mpg results should drop back to around 50.

Re: A little better mpg this time
I filled the tank a few day after the 57.6. The mfd was down some at 56.8 but when calculated it was, 56.39, still a nice reading. I also found the more miles I put on the tank, the slightly less difference between the mfd and actual calculated reading.
My total miles this time was 726.5. I went 24 days between fills. I was tired of working for the high gas mileage. Then I drove off from the Chevron station, the TCH was in the EV Mode. It's only slightly downhill headed toward downtown on the main drag. After about a mile I looked at the mfd and it was up to 99.9. It's hard to resist attempting to keep the mpg as high as possible. It was down to about 88.8 by the time we got home. As usual it just keeps falling as I drive.
LOL TCH asked earlier about my average speed. The mfd Average Speed read 30 miles per hour when we got to town. On the way home the average speed was 28. I forgot to read it when in town other than we drove 35 miles per hour on the main drag and that including stopping for a few red lights.
Update: When we got home this second night after the fill, the mpg was just above 60. I do like to see my mpg mistakes while glancing at the mpg readout for the first few days after a fill. Learning, always learning....
