I think that's the "you opened the door too soon" beep. If the door is open before you turn off the car, it will beep as soon as the car is off and will stop beeping when you close the door.
The other bizarre things about this beep are:
  • If the car is on, in park and the door is open (risk that the driver is unaware and leaves the car while it's still on) there is no beeping. I'd recommend a beep every three seconds while the door is open and if the door is closed and no one is sitting in the driver's seat...it should beep like crazy or the horn should go off and the lights should flash.
  • If the car is off, but you opened the door too soon, it beeps and wont stop until you close the door
  • If you turn off the car and leave the key in the car and close the door, you get ONLY three beeps
So, forgetting your car is on or leaving the key in the car is far less important than warning you that the car is off and you opened the door.
Can anyone figure out the logic here?

Hmmmm.....

I'm surprised it let you lock the car with the engine on, or was it actually unlocked as well?

Cheers!

I can relate. I left my TCH running while at dinner and a movie. Total of about 4 hours. I was in a hurry and must have not heard the, 'hey your car is still on' beep when I hit the door lock button. On the way out of the movie I see my lights on realize what must have happened.
